    摘要: Novel methods and compositions for improving the flame retardant capabilities of aromatic-based polymers like polycarbonate are disclosed. Other important polymer properties are substantially maintained, such as transparency. One aspect of the invention is directed to a flame retardance additive which comprises a copolymer of an aryl-containing silicone compound and a diorganic polysiloxane compound. In some preferred embodiments, the aryl-containing silicone compound is triphenyl- or diphenyl-based. This invention is also directed to new polymer compositions, which comprise an aromatic-based polymer and the flame retardance additive described above. The polymer compositions can be molded into a variety of articles which have a very useful combination of properties.

    摘要: Polycarbonate compositions having an aromatic polycarbonate resin with 90% or greater fluoroalkylene carbonate end-groups are formed from a partially fluorinated alcohol or a partially fluorinated polymeric alcohol, and a bisphenol and a carbonate source using melt or interfacial polymerization methods. Copolymers and blends with a variety of other bisphenols and other thermoplastics are also described. The polycarbonate compositions show high water contact angles, fluorine enrichment on the surface layer of molded articles, and good flame retardant properties and are useful in a variety of applications including medical, automotive, telecommunication and weatherable applications.

The optically transparent substrate includes an optically transparent plastic material, a photochemically active dye, and a protonated form of the photochemically active dye. The protonated form of the photochemically active dye is a composition having a structure as shown in formula I and the photochemically active dye is a composition having a structure as shown in formula II in both formulae I and II, R1 and R2 are independently at each occurrence an aliphatic radical having from 1 to about 10 carbons, a cycloaliphatic radical having from about 3 to about 10 carbons, or an aromatic radical having from about 3 to about 12 carbons; R3, R4, and R5 are independently at each occurrence a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic radical having from 1 to about 10 carbons, a cycloaliphatic radical having from about 3 to about 10 carbons, or an aromatic radical having from about 3 to about 12 carbons; R6 and R7 are independently at each occurrence a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic radical having from 1 to about 6 carbons; X is a halogen; and “n” is an integer having a value of from 0 to about 4.
