Abstract: A user equipment (UE) device may communicate according to a new device category satisfying specified QoS (quality of service) requirements while also satisfying specified link budget requirements, and/or additional optimization requirements. The UE device may communicate with a cellular base station according to a first mode of operation associated with the new device category, and may switch to communicating with the cellular base station according to a second mode of operation associated with a second (pre-existing) device category in response to the link budget requirements exceeding a specified value and the quality of service requirements not being sensitive. The UE device may also switch to communicating with the cellular base station according to a third mode of operation associated with a third (pre-existing) device type in response to the link budget requirement not exceeding the specified value, or the QoS requirements being sensitive and a downlink throughput requirement exceeding a specified throughput value.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to coordinating the operations of subsystems in a communication system of an electronic device where a coexistence hub device monitors the state information transmitted as coexistence messages over one or more multi-drop buses, processes the monitored coexistence messages and sends out control messages as coexistence messages to other systems on chips (SOCs). The coexistence hub device can also update the operations of the communication system. The coexistence hub device may receive an operation policy from a central processor and may execute the operation policy without further coordination of the central processor. The coexistence hub device broadcasts the control messages as coexistence messages according to the executed operation policy.

Abstract: A wireless communication device (UE) may provide information pertaining to one or more operating capabilities of the UE to LTE and 5G-NR networks. The UE may transmit information to an LTE base station directly, and to a 5G-NR base station directly, or indirectly via the LTE base station. The information may include preferred values corresponding to any number of different operating parameters associated with wireless communications or wireless communication capabilities of the UE in both LTE and 5G-NR networks, to inform and/or request the LTE and 5G-NR networks to make provisions based on the transmitted information for the wireless communications of the UE on those networks. The UE may thereby provide assistance information to LTE and 5G-NR networks in a multi-radio-access-technology dual-connectivity setting to request the respective networks to adjust certain operating capabilities of the UE in order to alleviate one or more operating issues that may be affecting the UE.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to including information in a data packet transmitted by a transmitting integrated circuit (e.g., SOC) to account for a time delay associated with an unsuccessful arbitration attempt to send the data packet over a multi-drop bus. The unsuccessful arbitration attempt by the integrated circuit may delay the transmission of the data packet until the multi-drop bus becomes available for the integrated circuit to send the data packet. The data packet includes a data field to include time delay information caused by the unsuccessful arbitration attempt. A receiving integrated circuit may determine the time that the data packet would have been sent out from the transmitting integrated circuit absent the unsuccessful arbitration attempt based on the delay information. Embodiments also relate to a synchronization generator circuit in an integrated circuit that generates timing signals indicating times at which periodic events occur at another integrated circuit.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to an integrated circuit of an electronic device that coordinates activities with another integrated circuit of the electronic device. The integrated circuit includes an interface circuit and a processor circuit. The interface circuit communicates over a multi-drop bus connected to multiple electronic components. The processor circuit receives an authorization request from the integrated circuit via the interface circuit and the multi-drop bus. The received authorization request relates to authorization to perform an activity on the other integrated circuit. In response to receiving the authorization request, the processor circuit determines whether the other integrated circuit is authorized to execute the activity. In response to determining that the other integrated circuit is authorized to execute the activity, the processor circuit sends, to the other integrated circuit over a configurable direct connection, an authorization signal authorizing the other integrated circuit to execute the activity.

Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for supporting narrowband device-to-device wireless communication, including possible techniques for performing discovery in an off grid radio system. A wireless device may obtain synchronization with a peer-to-peer communication group. The wireless device may determine the location of the wireless device within the peer-to-peer communication group based at least in part on signal strength of a synchronization signal used to obtain the synchronization. The wireless device may perform peer-to-peer discovery in the peer-to-peer communication group, such that time and frequency resources used by the wireless device to perform the peer-to-peer discovery are determined based at least in part on the location of the first wireless device within the peer-to-peer communication group.

The D2D synchronization signals may be provided on each respective frequency channel of the frequency channels during a respective portion of a D2D synchronization signal cycle in a sequential manner.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a wireless device such as a user equipment (UE) may communicate with a base station using an advanced form of carrier aggregation. The UE may provide signaling to the network specifying a number P of downlink component carriers to be configured for use by the UE for downlink carrier aggregation and a number Q of uplink component carriers to be configured for use by the UE for uplink carrier aggregation. The UE can only utilize a lesser number M of downlink component carriers at any given time in downlink carrier aggregation and can only utilize a lesser number N of uplink component carriers at any given time in uplink carrier aggregation. Thus the UE may request the network to configure a greater number P and Q of downlink and uplink component carriers, respectively, than the UE can actually use at any instant of time.
