Abstract: Various embodiments comprise systems, methods, architectures, mechanisms and apparatus for optimizing the delivery of multicast messages to a set of targeted (receiver) devices via a low power wide area (LPWA) network such as by minimizing a number of gateway devices in a set of gateway devices needed to reach the target devices, by optimizing the use of radio communication resources to minimize costs associated with using metered backhaul network services (e.g., costs associated with using cellular network backhaul services), by maximizing the resiliency, speed, or synchronization of the set of gateway devices, by favoring operator-owned resources, or by achieving other goals consistent with operator policies, preferences and other considerations.

Abstract: A system for fall prevention includes a platform for supporting a patient, the platform including rails and rail sensors, an image capturing device for capturing images of the patient, a patient monitor for interactive communication with the patient, a health monitoring station for receiving rail sensor data and communicating with the patient monitor, and an edge network device co-located with the platform and communicating with the station and the image capturing device. The edge network device receives image data from the image capturing device when the rail sensors indicate that the rail is down and the patient is at risk to themselves, anonymizes the image data to generate a skeleton image, determines a posture associated with the skeleton image, triggers alerts at the station when the patient is predicted to be sitting, and triggers escalated alerts at the station when the patient is predicted to be standing.

Abstract: A communications device is equipped with a secondary interface, e.g., a wireless interface, in addition to a primary interface. In at least some, but not necessarily all, embodiments the secondary interface is an inexpensive Long Range (LoRa) wireless interface which uses sub-GHz unlicensed spectrum or a Narrow Band-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) wireless interface which uses licensed spectrum. The secondary interface is in addition to a primary interface used for transmitting data, e.g., user data such as voice, video or text data, to a primary communications device, e.g., to support voice or data applications running on a user device. The secondary interface, e.g., a low power/low data rate interface, is used for communicating small amounts of data for initial configuration, fault recovery, re-initialization, and/or updates.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for managing radio device transmitters, beams, and receivers within a power-limited system. In one embodiment, the methods and apparatus utilize so-called “quasi-licensed” CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) wireless spectrum in conjunction with a distributed controller architecture that dynamically allocates frequency, base station, and transmit/receive beam resources for delivery of services to a number of installed fixed wireless apparatus (FWA) at user or subscriber premises. The FWA include radio path controller logic that obtains signal data via its antennae and radio head, and transmits the data to a network centralized controller that determines the resource allocation and timing (e.g., via a slotted TDD medium) for service delivery to each FWA. As such, the base stations do not determine the allocations as in the prior art, and multiple power-limited base stations can transmit signals to a single FWA to achieve greater coverage area and/or receive aggregated power.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for using an artificial intelligence engine to automatically predict what network slices will be needed are described. After the network slice prediction is made network slices are automatically generated in accordance with AI machine learned prediction. This new automated approach ensures the network slices are up to date and devices assigned the network slices properly as the new devices get activated on the network. This new approach can also add elasticity to the network slices based on the devices assigned to them by changing the amount of resources allocated to slices of a particular type as predicted resource needs change.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for managing frequency reassignment within wireless access nodes so as to minimize data session disruption. In one embodiment, the frequency reassignments occur within a quasi-licensed system utilizing 3.5 GHz CBRS (Citizens Broadband Radio Service) spectrum, and a reassignment of wireless spectrum that mitigates disruption or loss of continuity to existing data sessions of users of devices associated with a CBSD/xNB is provided via notification of the associated devices (e.g., Category B Consumer Premises Equipment or CPE, such as an FWA) of the reassignment by the CBSD/xNB. In one variant, the associated devices are instructed by the CBSD/xNB to invoke a “wait and re-establish” protocol that obviates a full frequency band rescan in favor of a designated target frequency provided to the CBSD/xNB by the cognizant SAS or DP.
