Abstract:
An example communication system comprises a media access control (MAC) scheduler in a cable network, and a full band transceiver. The MAC scheduler implements a two-dimensional transmission-reception (T-R) coordination scheme among a plurality of cable modems in the cable network. According to the T-R coordination scheme, the cable modems are categorized into interference groups, such that no cable modem of any one interference group transmits upstream in a frequency range simultaneously as another cable modem in the same interference group receives downstream in the frequency range, facilitating full duplex communication in the cable network across the frequency range. The full band transceiver implements an adaptive interference cancellation scheme, which suppresses at a receiver of the respective component, a signal transmitted by a transmitter of the respective component. The communication system further includes a full band amplifier, implementing the adaptive interference cancellation scheme and a ringing suppression scheme with echo cancellation.
Abstract:
Presented herein are techniques for enhancing pre-equalization operations in a telecommunications network. In one example, a cable modem termination system (CMTS) determines the coherent bandwidth for pre-equalization coefficients associated with upstream transmissions received from a cable modem. The CMTS uses the coherent bandwidth of the pre-equalization coefficients to calculate a time constant for a time domain filter that may be applied to the pre-equalization coefficients. The CMTS also calculates, based on the time constant, filter coefficients for the time domain filter and applies the time domain filter to the pre-equalization coefficients to generate signal-to-noise ratio (SNR)-enhanced pre-equalization coefficients. The CMTS then sends the SNR-enhanced pre-equalization coefficients to the cable modem.
Abstract:
Presented herein are non-disruptive noise estimation techniques that utilize a correlation between attributes of a received signal and the noise to generate estimated noise values for symbols of the signal. More specifically, a digital signal comprising symbols transmitted over a telecommunications network is received. For each of a plurality of the symbols, an estimated noise value associated with the respective symbol is generated through a correlation of a log-likelihood ratio (LLR) value to predetermined noise values. The estimated noise values for the plurality of symbols are used to generate noise information representing time and frequency characteristics of noise in the telecommunications network.
Abstract:
An example apparatus for supporting digital pre-distortion (DPD) and full duplex (FDX) in cable network environments is provided and includes a first path for signals being transmitted out of the apparatus, a second path for signals being received into the apparatus, a DPD actuator located on the first path, an amplifier located on the first path, an echo cancellation (EC) actuator located on the second path, and a data interface including a plurality of channels connecting the apparatus to a signal processor. DPD coefficients, EC coefficients and delay parameters are provided over the data interface from the signal processor to the apparatus. The DPD actuator predistorts signals on the first path using the DPD coefficients compensating for distortions introduced by the amplifier, and the EC actuator reduces interferences in signals on the second path using the EC coefficients and the delay parameters, facilitating FDX communication by the apparatus.
Abstract:
Echo cancellation may be provided. First, a feedback signal corresponding to a plurality of downstream paths may be received. Next, during an upstream silence period, a sample of a combination upstream signal may be received comprising a combination of upstream signals from a plurality of upstream paths. An echo correcting signal may then be created using the received feedback signal and the received sample of the combination upstream signal. Downstream echoes may be cancel from the combination upstream signal based on the created echo correcting signal.
Abstract:
An embodiment of a method includes determining a channel signature for each of a plurality of cable devices associated with a selected household; determining whether at least one of the channel signatures is substantially different than the remaining ones of the channel signatures; and if at least one of the channel signatures is substantially different than the remaining ones of the channel signatures, flagging the selected household for potential theft of services review. Additional embodiments may include determining a radio frequency (“RF”) signal power level for each of the cable devices; calculating a sum of the determined RF signal power levels; determining whether the calculated sum is equal to an RF power signal level measured at a tap of the selected household; and if the calculated sum is not equal to the measured RF power signal level, flagging the selected household for potential theft of services review.
Abstract:
Digital pre-distortion may be provided. First, a radio frequency (RF) domain distortion correcting signal and a base band (BB) domain distortion correcting signal may be initialized. Then the RF domain distortion correcting signal may be generated from an input signal. The generated RF domain distortion correcting signal may correspond to an amplifier. Next, the BB domain distortion correcting signal may be generated from the input signal. The generated BB domain distortion correcting signal may correspond to the amplifier. Then the RF domain distortion correcting signal and the BB domain distortion correcting signal may be combined to form a hybrid distortion correcting signal. The hybrid distortion correcting signal may then be provided to input matching circuitry feeding the amplifier.

Reduce echo level may be provided by scrambling phases of echoes from multiple ports in a Full Duplex (FDX) node. The FDX node may comprise a transmit portion, a receive portion, and a plurality of ports. The transmit portion may comprise a transmit portion transmit port and a plurality of splitters. The receive portion may comprise a receive portion receive port and a plurality of combiners. The plurality of splitters and the plurality of combiners may scramble phases of completed loops from the transmit portion transmit port to the receive portion receive port resulting from reflections from the plurality of ports.

The first interface device may be connected to a virtual physical layer instance instantiated in a cloud-based environment. The second interface device may be connected to customer premises equipment. The digital-to-analog converter may be connected between the first interface device and the second interface device and the analog-to-digital converter may also be connected between the first interface device and the second interface device.

Designs for a front end for suppressing adjacent channel interference (ACI) and adjacent leakage interference (ALI) in a full duplex cable modem (CM) for a Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (“DOCSIS”) network are described. The CM includes an upstream (US) signal path receiving a digital US input signal and transmitting an analog-converted US signal in a US frequency range to a cable modem termination system (CMTS); a downstream (DS) signal path receiving an analog DS signal in a DS frequency range and converting the analog DS signal into a digital DS signal; and an echo cancellation (EC) circuit configured to subtract, from at least one of the analog DS signal and the digital DS signal, a correction signal generated from the digital US input signal or a correction signal generated from the analog-converted US signal to generate an echo-cancelled digital DS input signal without ACI and ALI.
