Abstract:
A multi-theater light source for two or more 3D projectors positioned in differing spaces. The apparatus includes a first light source outputting light to display left eye content, and the apparatus includes a second light source outputting light for use by the projectors to display right eye content. The apparatus includes a switching device that receives the light output from the first and second light sources and switches between first and second operating states to route the left and right eye light. In the first operating state, the switching device directs the light from the first light source toward a first projector and the light output from the second light source toward a second projector. In the second operating state, the switching device directs the light output from the first light source toward the second projector and the light output from the second light source toward the first projectors.
Abstract:
A three dimensional (3D) display apparatus for without 3D glasses. The display apparatus includes a display element operated to display left and right eye images. A back light assembly back lights the display element and includes light bars with a row of infrared (IR) light receivers that are each paired to a white light emitting diode (LED). Viewers in seats in tiered rows such that their heads are in known viewing locations. Left and right side illuminators illuminate the left and right sides of the faces of the viewers with IR light. The IR light is synchronized with display of the left and right eye images. IR reflected from viewers' faces pass through the display element and is focused onto IR light receivers, which causes LEDs to emit light onto the display element and provide left or right eye images to the viewers at their left or right eyes.
Abstract:
An illumination distribution system for distributing high power illumination to a set of projectors. The system includes a display element, such as a spatial light modulator (SLM), receiving light from a laser. The system includes a fiber optic array with connection locations for optical fibers. The system includes projectors that are each coupled to the fiber optic array at one or more of the connection locations with at least one optical fiber. The system includes a controller operating the display element at a first time to display a first hologram and at a second time to display a second hologram differing from the first hologram such that the laser light is split, with equal or unequal splitting ratios, into beams that are selectively directed to the connection locations of the fiber optic array (e.g., based on a 2D routing pattern used to generate the holograms).
Abstract:
A 3D display apparatus for providing a Pepper's Ghost effect. The apparatus includes a background set spaced apart from a viewing space such that a viewer in the viewing space has a line of sight to the background set. The apparatus also includes a mirrored surfaces fan, which includes a motor, a hub rotatable by the motor, and a plurality of fan blades attached in a spaced apart manner to the hub to rotate with the hub. In some cases, each of the fan blades has a reflective region on a side facing away from the background set. The apparatus also includes a display device with a screen displaying an image of an object. The screen is positioned at an offset angle in the range of 40 to 60 degrees from a rotation plane for the sides of the fan blades. Often, the display device includes a 3D autostereoscopic device.
Abstract:
A special effects (FX) system for generating a penumbra or glow effect about an object. Briefly, the FX system includes at least one sheet of retroreflective material and a penumbra activator. The penumbra activator is designed to selectively direct light toward a reflective surface of the retroreflective material. For example, the penumbra activator may include an elongated core element extending from a hilt. The body of the core element may include strings or sets of direction light sources, which may be spaced apart along the length of external surfaces of the core element body. A controller is used to operate the light sources such as by sequentially illuminating the lights sources from an end near the base/hilt to an end near a tip/distal end of the core element body, with earlier lit sources remaining on in some cases to cause a light sword blade to grow out of the hilt.
