摘要: A holographic display includes an illuminator, a spatial light modulator (SLM) coupled to the illuminator, and an ocular lens coupled to the SLM. The illuminator provides a wide-area illuminating light beam to illuminate the SLM with a spatially homogeneous beam of light. The illuminator may include a slab waveguide with an evanescent out-coupler, or a beam expander based on a diffraction grating with an oblique angle of incidence and a near-normal angle of diffraction of the illuminating light. A low-pass spatial filter may be provided to filter out higher diffraction orders of the illuminating light diffracted on the SLM.

摘要: A system includes a surface relief grating configured to forwardly diffract an input beam as two linearly polarized beams. The system also includes a waveplate optically coupled with the surface relief grating and configured to convert the two linearly polarized beams into two circularly polarized beams having orthogonal circular polarizations. The two circularly polarized beams having orthogonal circular polarizations interfere with one another to generate a polarization interference pattern.

摘要: Methods, apparatus, devices, and systems for displaying three-dimensional objects by individually diffracting different colors of light are provided. In one aspect, an optical device includes: a first optically diffractive component including a first diffractive structure configured to diffract a first color of light having a first incident angle at a first diffracted angle, a second optically diffractive component including a second diffractive structure configured to diffract a second color of light having a second incident angle at a second diffracted angle, a first reflective layer configured to totally reflect the first color of light having the first incident angle and transmit the second color of light, and a second reflective layer configured to totally reflect the second color of light having the second incident angle. The first reflective layer is between the first and second diffractive structures, and the second diffractive structure is between the first and second reflective layers.

The modular routing node is arranged to produce a plurality of different deflections and uses small adjustments to compensate for wavelength differences and alignment tolerances in an optical system. An optical device is arranged to receive a multiplex of many optical signals at different wavelengths, to separate the optical signals into at least two groups, and to process at least one of the groups adaptively.

摘要: A display includes a projector configured to provide light of a virtual image, a waveguide into which the light of the virtual image is injected at an injection angle by the projector, and a combiner disposed along the waveguide and configured to redirect the light of the virtual image. The waveguide is configured to emit the light at a point established by the injection angle. The combiner is further configured to allow ambient light from beyond the waveguide to pass through the combiner. The waveguide constrains the light of the virtual image through total internal reflection along a curved path for the light between the projector and the combiner.
