摘要: A footstand for stabilizing a body of a medical device against being overturned. The body may especially be a chest drainage unit (CDU) designed and configured to receive and collect fluids from a medical patient. The invention comprises at least one stand coupled to the body and adapted for deployment to a position for stabilizing the body against upset. The CDU body is a generally upstanding rectangular box having a pair of depending feet, one foot on each side of the body. The stand, is rotatably connected to the bottom of the CDU body and is provided with a height adjustment feature which allows the stand to be rotated between a first undeployed position wherein the stand covers or encloses the depending fee of the CDU body while providing a relatively smooth and continuous bottom stand surface to a second deployed position wherein the bottom stand surface is at the same height or in the same horizontal plane as the bottom of the depending feet of the CDU body to provide a solid and secure footstand for the CDU body. It is desirable to provide a footstand for a CDU which provides a smooth contoured surface for the CDU bottom when the footstand is in its first undeployed position so that the CDU bottom will not puncture the sterile package during transportation of the CDU to an end user or during storage of the CDU prior to use or during disposal of the CDU after use in a hazardous disposal bag.

摘要: A syringe needle thimble cap and its method of use is shown such that the thimble cap has a porous plastic, hydrophilic core captured within a cylindrical cap member for use with an arterial blood gas syringe barrel and needle assembly. The syringe needle thimble cap has a generally thimble-shaped cap with a proximal opening. The porous plastic core material is positioned within the thimble cap distally to the proximal opening, and the core material is held in place by an inwardly extending ring to prevent its removal. An open or hollow space is created distally to the porous material which is otherwise bounded by the interior surfaces of the thimble cap.

摘要: A wound evacuator comprises a pair of walls which are pushed apart by springs to generate suction in a cavity. A strap coupled to one of the walls includes a plug to close an outlet, a slot cooperating with a peg on the one wall to retain the strap adjacent the one wall and a tab to prevent contact by an individual with the plug upon removal and reinsertion of the plug in the outlet.

摘要: A needle assembly is disclosed, which includes a needle hub, a metal cannula and a plastic tip. The needle hub defines a fluid flow path therethrough. The metal cannula is supported on a distal end of the needle hub, where the metal cannula defines a fluid flow path into the distal end of the needle hub. The plastic tip member is connected to a distal end of the metal cannula, where the plastic tip member defines a fluid flow path into the distal end of the metal cannula. Plastic tip further includes a channel groove that runs along the length of the plastic tip to allow fluid to flow into a distal end of the metal cannula. Additionally, the plastic tip member is configured to pierce a septum of a vial.

摘要: Featured is a vascular access device such as an IV catheter device including a housing, a tubular member and a seal member, and a securing mechanism. The housing includes a proximal and distal portion and a chamber that extends between the proximal and distal portions. The tubular member is coupled to the housing distal portion so it is fluidly coupled to the chamber. The seal member is disposed within the chamber and the securing mechanism secures the seal member distal end to the housing proximal portion so the seal member is sealingly and compressibly retained between a chamber proximal end and the securing mechanism. Such a seal member also is constituted so a portion of the seal member moves axially responsive to an axial force applied to the proximal end.

摘要: A phlebotomy needle is disclosed which includes structure to facilitate visualization of flashback. In one embodiment, a central portion of the needle includes a hole or opening which communicates with a flow channel defined by the needle and a transparent housing is positioned about the opening to facilitate visualization of blood flow through the needle. A material which allows passage of air and provides an indication of blood flow through the needle is positioned over the opening. In one embodiment, the material is in the form of a plug or, alternately, in the form of a patch or collar. The material can be encased in or provide a window in the transparent housing. In another embodiment, the phlebotomy needle includes a needle and a housing having a passive vent and a viewing region for visualizing blood flow in the housing.

摘要: A progressive filtration system for a chest drainage unit during continuous autotransfusion that allows the user to clear the fluid pathway of blood clots and trapped air that form after filtration in a flushing action initiated by the user. The filtration system comprises a gross filter for filtering incoming blood at the inlet portion of a collection chamber of a chest drainage unit and a fine filter assembly located at the bottom portion of the collection chamber for refiltering collected blood prior to reinfusion of that blood back to the patient. The filter assembly includes a valve cap at the top portion of the assembly that functions as a one way valve that permits reflux of later developing blood clots that might clog the tubing once the blood has already passed through the assembly. The valve cap is also adapted for sealing engagement with a drop tube that places the filter assembly in fluid flow communication with an outlet of the collection chamber located at the top portion of the chamber.

摘要: The present invention provides for an improved air-flow sensitive float valve interposed between the collection chamber and one arm of the water seal chamber for allowing the patient to draw as much vacuum pressure as is required during deep inspiration. The float valve also functions to provide for an automatic controlled release of excess negative pressure in the collection chamber during either continuous autotransfusion or when there is a low air flow rate condition present. By tailoring a specific amount of water to a given size chamber, the water column inside the water seal chamber is allowed to momentarily engage the floating mechanism before the water seal chamber is emptied of water and a column of air is subsequently forced through the water column towards the momentarily sealed valve. Once the air column reaches the valve, the water supporting the valve is displaced and the valve is released until the air column is replaced by another rising water column. This displacement of air through the water column causes the valve to "shuttle" between open and closed positions as the alternating rising water and air pocket engages the valve so that sub-atmospheric pressure in the collection chamber is maintained and excess negative pressure is relieved.
