    摘要: A repository manager facilitates robust revision control of components of a large scale system. The repository manager stores system components under revision control in a repository, according to internal names. The repository manager also stores binding information between internal names of system components and associated external names, as well as component attribute information. The repository manager provides users with working areas, from which they are able to access system components according to their external names, via the repository manager. As users perform operations affecting system components, the repository manager keeps track of the performed operations. Responsive to a user committing a set of changes, the repository manager updates the master repository according to the performed operations, associates a new version number with the resulting state of the repository and synchronizes the user's working area with the updated repository.

    摘要: The data storage subsystem is implemented using an array of data storage elements which vary in data storage characteristics and/or data storage capacity. Control apparatus automatically compensates for any nonuniformity among the data storage elements by selecting a set of physical characteristics that define a common data storage element format. The selected set of physical characteristics may not match any of the disk drives but each disk drive can emulate these selected characteristics. This capability enables the disk drives in the data storage subsystem to be replaced by nonidentical disk drives in a nondisruptive manner to provide continuous data availability.

    摘要: The disk drive memory of the present invention uses a large plurality of small form factor disk drives to implement an inexpensive, high performance, high reliability disk drive memory that emulates the format and capability of large form factor disk drives. The plurality of disk drives are switchably interconnectable to form redundancy groups of N+M parallel connnected disk drives to store data thereon. The N+M disk drives are used to store the N segments of each data word plus M redundancy segments. In addition, a pool of R backup disk drives is maintained to automatically substitute a replacement disk drive for a disk drive in a redundancy group that fails during operation. The number N of data segments in each data redundancy group can be varied throughout the disk drive memory to thereby match the characteristics of the input data or operational parameters within the disk drive memory. Furthermore, a group of U unassigned disk drives can be maintained as a stock of disk drives that can be powered up as needed and assigned to either a redundancy group or to the pool of backup disk drives.

    摘要: A portable computing device (PCD) can selectively supply power to an accessory during PCD hibernation. In some embodiments, the PCD's default behavior is to disable accessory power output during hibernation, and this default behavior can be overridden in response to a request from a connected accessory. The accessory can use the power supplied during PCD hibernation to detect user input (or other) events and wake the PCD from hibernation in response to a detected event. Some accessories can wake the PCD by emulating accessory detachment and reattachment.

    摘要: A system for managing access to resources in a plurality of servers by a plurality of client computers by using an operating system independent Secure Shell (SSH) protocol running in each server and using a central policy database that centrally stores access rules which specify access to the servers for a plurality of users/accounts. Each time a target server receives a user request to establish an SSH session, it retrieves associated access rules from the central policy database to obtain the latest access rules. Based on the retrieved rules and the identity of the user and the identity of the client computer, the target server determines whether the user has permission to establish the SSH session with the target server. Using a centralized database and requiring the servers to always retrieve the latest access rules from a central database provides consistent application of the access rules across all servers and all client computers.
