Abstract:
A system is provided for detecting the presence of a human in a compartment of a vehicle that comprises a pyroelectric sensor and a control coupled to the pyroelectric sensor. The pyroelectric sensor comprises a first sensing element and a second sensing element. The first sensing element is arranged in an opposed electrical connection with respect to the second sensing element whereby infrared radiation from a human moving within the compartment is selectively detected by one of the first sensing element and the second sensing element, thereby producing an output signal of the pyroelectric sensor. This output signal is received by the control, and the control generates a control signal indicative of detection of a human within the compartment.
Abstract:
A system for sensing ambient conditions in a compartment, such as the trunk of an automobile, generates a control signal in response to the sensed conditions. This control signal actuates indicators to notify operators of the vehicle that there is a person trapped in the trunk. The control signal is also used to actuate a lamp inside the trunk to provide light for the trapped person. A trunk release is also actuated, by a control module, to free the trapped person. The trunk release of the automobile can be prevented from being actuated if the automobile is moving, which prevents the trunk lid from unexpectedly opening while the vehicle is in motion.
Abstract:
A photochromic device is provided which allows the user to leave the device in a high transmissive state even when exposed to a source of radiation and to control the degree of darkening achieved while exposed to the source of radiation.
Abstract:
Method is provided for preparing PbO-based ceramics by mixing metal cations in alkanolamines and then adding the mixture to lead carboxylates in alcohol, to obtain ceramic solutions or gels therefrom. The metal cations are sourced from metal alkoxides, chelates and salts and include metals of Ti, Zr and La. The above solutions and gels can be employed to form PbO-based powders, fibers and films, e.g. films of PZT and PLZT, which find electrical and optical applications such as ferroelectric memory and dielectric waveguides. The invention resides in the above method and resulting PbO ceramics which have e.g. films of considerably higher dielectric constants than previously known in the art.
Abstract:
An efficient piezoelectric-triggered time delay module may be provided with separate firing and logic capacitors, and may also have corresponding separate piezoelectric transducers. Further, separate firing and logic capacitors may be impedance-matched to corresponding separate piezoelectric transducers. Optionally, the capacitors may be made of the same materials as the corresponding piezoelectric transducers. Further alternately or additionally, low-value, high-voltage rated capacitor(s) may be employed. Further alternately or additionally, the piezoelectric transducer(s) may be selected to offer high charge output within the intended operating temperature range. Further alternately or additionally, the piezoelectric transducer(s) may be constructed with multiple wafers.
Abstract:
A method for logging a plurality of slave devices is suggested, comprising the following steps: a) connecting a plurality of slave devices each having an identity and a pyrotechnic charge to an electrical conduit; b) after step a), connecting a logging device comprising a power supply, an electrical interface, and a memory and c)causing the logging device to communicate with each of the plurality of slave devices while the plurality of slave devices is simultaneously connected to the electrical conduit.
Abstract:
Dynamic baselining of current modulation-based talkback from a slave device to a master device in a system such as an electronic blasting system, wherein the dynamic baselining enhances communication integrity under conditions of environmental noise and the like. With a data packet of appreciable length, the dynamic baselining is preferably performed repeatedly on the bytes or words within the packet.
Abstract:
For use in a system having a master device and slave devices (e.g., an electronic blasting system) and utilizing an automatic detection process that causes any slave devices that have not previously been identified to the master device to identify themselves to the master device, an enhancement to the detection process employs at least a second discriminator to detect superimposed responses from simultaneously responding slave devices, and a “deconvolution” algorithm in order to ascertain their identities.
