Abstract: This document describes monitoring and managing wireless backhaul integrated with mobile access in fifth generation new radio (5G NR) wireless networks. The techniques described employ an Integrated Backhaul-Access and Mobility Function (IB-AMF) to enable authorization of a base station to access a 5G network through another base station. The techniques described also monitor channel conditions and traffic loads to manage backhaul links and facilitate handovers of base station backhaul connections between other base stations.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes techniques and systems for wireless communications between a base station [120] and a user equipment [110] using an enhanced radio-resource control idle mode. The described techniques and systems enable a user equipment [110] to receive a radio-resource control release message [410] that includes a cell radio-network temporary-identifier and, in response, enter [415] the enhanced radio-resource control idle mode. While in the enhanced radio-resource control idle mode, the user equipment [110] may receive a message [420] in accordance with the cell radio-network temporary-identifier and present the received message.

Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described for machine-learning architectures for simultaneous connection to multiple carriers. In implementations, a network entity determines at least one deep neural network (DNN) configuration for processing information exchanged with a user equipment (UE) over a wireless communication system using carrier aggregation that includes at least a first component carrier and a second component carrier. At times, the at least one DNN configuration includes a first portion for forming a first DNN at the network entity, and a second portion for forming a second DNN at the UE. The network entity forms the first DNN based on the first portion and communicates an indication of the second portion to the UE. The network entity directs the UE to form the second DNN based on the second portion, and uses the first DNN to exchange, over the wireless communication system, the information with the UE using the carrier aggregation.

Abstract: This document describes techniques and devices for communication of dual connectivity (DC) capability by user equipment (110) to a base station (120) and a core network (150) using signaling of a modification of the DC capability of the UE (110) at the physical layer (306) or the media access control layer (308) to reduce the latency of communicating the modification of the DC capability as compared to using Radio Resource Control layer (322) signaling. Signaling a modification of DC capability at the physical layer (306) or media access control layer (308) enables the UE (110) to more quickly respond to issues detected by the UE (110), such as thermal management or in-device coexistence interference, that may be mitigated by discontinuing DC communications.

Abstract: This document describes improvements in mobility management for user equipment (110) between a cellular network (202) and a WLAN network (206). A Cellular-WLAN Mobility Function (210) is introduced to manage routing of packet data over the cellular network (202) and the WLAN network (206) to the user equipment (110). The CWMF (210) enables the transfer of packet data context between the cellular network (202) and the WLAN network (206), improved handovers between the cellular network (202) and the WLAN network (206), Quality of Service (QoS) management of the WLAN network (206), and aggregation of cellular and WLAN bandwidths to improve data throughput for user equipment 110.

Abstract: A method of controlling a temperature of a femtocell includes receiving, at data processing hardware of the femtocell, temperature measurements from a temperature sensor configured to measure a temperature of at least one of the data processing hardware or a power amplifier of the femtocell. The method further includes determining, by the data processing hardware, whether the femtocell is operating above a threshold temperature based on the temperature measurements. When the femtocell is operating above the threshold temperature, the method includes modifying, by the data processing hardware, a power consumption characteristic of the femtocell that results in a power consumption reduction of at least one of the data processing hardware or the power amplifier.

Abstract: This document describes mobility management of edge computing resources in fifth generation new radio (5G NR) wireless networks. The techniques described enable authorizing user devices to access edge compute servers that execute applications for the user device. The techniques described also enable the migration of applications of user devices between edge compute servers based on mobility changes of user devices in a wireless network, such as handovers of a user device between base stations in the wireless network.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes techniques and systems for wireless communication via a mobile relay. These techniques may include a user device that determines that a transceiver is unavailable for communicating with a base station via a wireless connection. The user device then uses a mobile relay to communicate with the base station while the transceiver is unavailable. The mobile relay may be used for transmitting or receiving data from the base station. Additionally or alternatively, the mobile relay may participate in the wireless connection as an external resource of the mobile device or may establish an independent wireless connection with the base station.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes techniques and systems for user device-initiated requests for resource configuration. In some aspects, a user device can detect one or more conditions related to communicating with a base station over a wireless connection. The user device selects, based on the conditions, elements of a resource configuration for communicating with the base station. The user device then transmits a request indicating the selected elements of the resource configuration to the base station, which can then allocate resources to the user device based on the request. The elements of the resource configuration selected by the user device may include one or more of numerology configuration, mini-slot configuration, or a schedule for uplink and downlink OFDM symbols within a resource of the wireless network. This may allow the user device to influence a resource configuration that is better-suited for communication over one or more channels of the wireless connection.
