A method is provided for determining a time duration for an electric actuation of a valve which has a coil drive, in particular of a direct-injection valve for an internal combustion engine. The method may include a deactivation of a current flow through a coil of the coil drive, such that the coil is in a currentless state, a detection of a time profile of a voltage induced in the currentless coil, a determination of the closing time of the valve on the basis of the detected time profile, and a determination of a time duration of the electric actuation of the valve for a future injection process on the basis of the determined closing time. A corresponding device and a computer program for carrying out the described method are also disclosed.

The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine comprising a fuel pressure accumulator, in order to provide fuel at a nominal pressure, pressure in a fuel pressure accumulator being generated by means of a high-pressure pump. According to said method, the high-pressure pump is supplied with a fuel flow via a volume flow control valve. In a first operating mode, the pressure in the fuel pressure accumulator is set to the nominal pressure, by regulating the fuel flow of the fuel delivered to the high-pressure pump by means of the volume flow regulating valve. In a second operating mode, the pressure in the fuel pressure accumulator is set to the nominal pressure, i.e. more specifically, the pressure in the fuel pressure accumulator is reduced to the nominal pressure.

A feed quantity of the secondary air pump is pilot-controlled to a stoichiometric exhaust gas ratio, as a function of engine operating parameters, with the control system. The pilot control is corrected with a superimposed closed-loop control in accordance with the sensor signal, starting with operational readiness of the lambda sensor.

A method for carrying out a hot start in an internal combustion engine has a hot start condition that is recognized on the basis of the coolant temperature and the intake air temperature. A hot start identifier is stored when the coolant temperature and the intake air temperature have both reached a predetermined limit value at least once during a post-operation time after the internal combustion engine is turned off. At the next start of the internal combustion engine, the hot start is then carried out when the hot start identifier is stored and the coolant temperature still lies above its limit value. The method is thus based on temperature sensors that are already present in the motor control system. Therefore, no additional temperature sensors, for measuring the temperature of the fuel, are required.
