摘要: A wireless communication device includes an antenna for wireless communication with a remote interrogator. Several embodiments are disclosed to increase the options available to designers of wireless communication devices. In some embodiments, the antenna is a quarter wavelength long with one end of the antenna being grounded to provide desired impedance matching characteristics. The position of the ground plane relative to the antenna is also varied between embodiments. The connection from a wireless communication chip to the antenna is also varied between embodiments to provide alternate structures.

摘要: An AM receiver incorporates an antenna, a transistor, a current source, and a power supply. The antenna is connected to a gate electrode of the transistor and through a link to a signal earth. In operation, the antenna receives radiation and generates a corresponding input signal which propagates to the gate electrode. The transistor is operable to process the input signal in two steps, namely to reflectively amplify the input signal to generate a correspondingly reflectively amplified input signal at the gate electrode in a first step, and amplitude demodulate the amplified input signal in a second step. The transistor is operable in a non-linear region of its current/voltage characteristic whereas it simultaneously provides reflective amplification and signal demodulation, namely the two steps occur simultaneously. In contradistinction, conventional demodulators employing gain devices operating non-linearly to provide amplitude demodulation incorporate the devices configured to function as transmission amplifiers.

摘要: A multimode transceiver circuit comprises a four port coupler of a type which splits a signal applied to one port between two of the other ports. The split signals are phase shifted by a known amount. A first port of the coupler is for receiving a signal and for outputting a signal therefrom. A controllable oscillator is connected to a second port of the coupler and switchable impedances (Schottky diodes) are connected to the remaining ports. A controller is provided for controlling the operation of the oscillator and the impedances to determine the mode of operation of the circuit. In one mode of operation, the oscillator is inoperative and at least one of the impedances is switched to operate as a non-linear impedance such that the circuit detects amplitude-modulation of the signal applied to the first port. In a further mode of operation, the oscillator is operable and both impedances are switched to operate as non-linear impedance elements such that they operate as a mixer to produce an intermediate frequency signal in dependence on the signal applied to the first port. In yet a further mode of operation, the oscillator is operable, and the impedances are switched such that the oscillator frequency appears at the first port for transmission therefrom.

摘要: An amplifier circuit for amplifying an input signal to generate an amplifier output signal incorporates a cascaded series of reflection amplifiers arranged along a signal path and operative to amplify signals propagating in a forward direction along the signal path. The circuit is operative to counteract signal propagation in a reverse direction along the signal path, thereby hindering spontaneous oscillation from arising within the circuit. Incorporation of reflection amplifiers into the circuit enables it to provide high gain, for example 50 dB, while consuming low currents, for example, tens of microamperes. The circuit is especially suitable for use at intermediate frequencies in radio receivers such as mobile telephones.
