Abstract: The exemplary embodiments may account for a change in potency of a medicament and adjust the dosage of medicament delivered to a user via a medicament delivery device to compensate for the change in potency. The medicament delivery device may determine the amount of change in the potency in the medicament and may make the adjustment in dosage of the medicament delivered to the user automatically without user input. The net result in that the dosage of medicament delivered to the user is better matched to the user's true need for the medicament.

Abstract: A novel embodiment of a pump system, for example, of the type that would be used in a wearable drug delivery system, comprises dual linear-actuated plungers disposed in a pump chamber. The plungers are coupled to a leadscrew having both left-hand and right-hand threads such that rotation of leadscrew in a first direction moves the plungers together and rotation of leadscrew in a second, opposite direction moves the plungers apart. Movement of the plungers away from each other draws one or more doses of a liquid drug from a reservoir into the pump chamber, while movement of the plungers together forces liquid drug to a patient interface for delivery to the patient.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for performing an insertion process for a plurality of penetrating elements are described. For example, a wearable fluid infusion device may include a cannula and/or needle for infusing a fluid into a patient and a sensor for sensing a physical characteristic of the patient. A non-limiting example of a fluid may be or may include insulin. An illustrative and non-restrictive example of a physical characteristic may include a blood glucose level. The wearable infusion device may be configured to facilitate insertion of the multiple penetrating elements, such as a cannula and a sensor, in a single simultaneous insertion step instead of requiring individual insertion steps for each of multiple penetrating elements. Other embodiments are described.

Abstract: The exemplary embodiments may provide a secure framework for devices in a drug delivery system to wirelessly communicate. The secure framework may use encrypted keys to carry credentials and to specify the rights of the devices presenting the credentials. The devices in the drug delivery system present the keys at the time that they wish to wirelessly communicate with other devices in the drug delivery system. The devices receiving such keys, decrypt the keys and verify if the credentials are valid. If the credentials are valid, a wireless communication session between devices may be established.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to approaches for transitioning a drug delivery device from a low-energy sleep state to a high-energy active state. In some embodiments, a system may include a drug delivery device, the drug delivery device including a pump mechanism coupled to a reservoir for expelling a liquid drug from the reservoir; and an activation component communicatively coupled to the pump mechanism. The activation component may include at least one of a sensor and a mechanical activation device, and a wake-up circuit operable to receive an input from the sensor or the mechanical activation device, wherein the input indicates a change in a device characteristic. Based on the change in the device characteristic, the wake-up circuit may be further operable to transition the drug delivery device from a low-energy state to an active state.

Abstract: A wearable drug delivery device that can deliver a liquid drug stored in a container to a patient is provided. The container can be a prefilled cartridge that can be loaded into the drug delivery device by the patient or that can be preloaded within the drug delivery device when provided to the patient. A sealed end of the container is pierced to couple the stored liquid drug to a needle conduit that is coupled to a needle insertion component that provides access to the patient. A drive system of the drug delivery device can expel the liquid drug from the cartridge to the patient through the needle conduit. The drive system can be controlled to provide the liquid drug to the patient in a single dose or over multiple doses.

Abstract: A wearable drug delivery device that can deliver a liquid drug stored in a container to a patient or user is provided. A soft needle or cannula can be placed in fluid communication with the liquid drug and can be coupled to a needle insertion component that provides access to the patient. A drive system of the drug delivery device can expel the liquid drug from the container to the patient through the soft needle or cannula. The wearable drug delivery device can include components for preventing backflow and eliminating air within the liquid drug. As a result, the comfort of the patient can be enhanced and correct drug dosages can be provided when using the drug delivery device.

Abstract: Disclosed are a device, system, methods and computer-readable medium products that provide an updated insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio and an updated total daily insulin. The described processes may be used for periodic updating of the insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio and the total daily insulin. The insulin-to-carbohydrate ratio and/or the total may be used in the calculation of new doses of insulin that a drug delivery device may be commanded to deliver to a user.

Abstract: Systems and methods for automatically delivering medication to a user. A sensor coupled to a user can collect information regarding the user. A controller can use the collected information to determine an amount of medication to provide the user. The controller can instruct a drug delivery device to dispense the medication to the user. The drug delivery device can be a wearable insulin pump that is directly coupled to the user. The controller can be part of or implemented in a cellphone. A user can be required to provide a confirmation input to allow a determined amount of insulin to be provided to the user based on detected glucose levels of the user. The sensor, controller, and drug delivery device can communicate wirelessly.

Abstract: Ratchet-based drive systems for more reliable and safer drug delivery are provided. The ratchet-based drive systems restrict angular movement and/or linear movement of components that cause a plunger to expel a liquid drug from a drug container. Movement of the components can be restricted to correspond to a predetermined or desired portion of the liquid drug. In the case that control of the drive system is lost or fails, the maximum amount of drug that could be delivered is limited to a known amount, thereby reducing the likelihood of an overdose.
