Abstract: Methods and systems for optimizing the gas-oil separation plant (GOSP) operating parameters in order to maximize the stabilized crude oil recovery in an integrated framework of GOSP operation. The ambient temperature variations daily (day and night) and seasonal (summer and winter) are incorporated to show their impact on liquid recovery. An artificial intelligence model predicts stabilized crude oil recovery for a range of ambient temperatures. The optimal GOSP separator pressures which yield maximum stabilized crude oil recovery are determined for each ambient temperature. The separator pressures of the GOSP may be adjusted to achieve the maximum stabilized crude oil recovery under changing ambient temperatures.

Abstract: Cementing compositions containing a hydraulic cement, halloysite nanoparticles, and silica flour. The cementing compositions may optionally include other additives such as a friction reducer, a defoamer, and a fluid loss additive. Cement samples made therefrom and methods of producing such cement samples are also specified. The addition of halloysite nanoparticles and silica flour provides enhanced mechanical strength (e.g. compressive strength, flexural strength) and improved durability (e.g. resistance to CO2 and salinity) to the cement, making them suitable cementing material for oil and gas wells.

Abstract: A method for predicting formation permeability by measuring diffusional tortuosity in several directions by pulse gradient NMR. The method comprises evaluating an anisotropic diffusion coefficient by pulsed gradient NMR, determining diffusional tortuosity from the restricted diffusion data, supplementing the NMR results with resistivity and sonic logging data, measuring anisotropic tortuosity and porosity by resistivity and sonic data and combining all components in a single fitting model. The 11-coefficient model is trained to recognize the true values of permeability by comparing the real oil permeabilities measured in a library of oil-carrying rock cores with the NMR, resistivity and sonic correlates. The fitting coefficients are extracted by minimizing the discrepancy between the laboratory measured permeabilities and the predicted values combining all rapid logging information components with the agreement-maximizing weights.

Abstract: A well cleanup process involves removing an impermeable filter cake from a formation face with thermochemical and chelating agents to allow formation fluids to flow from a reservoir to a wellbore. The method may be used with oil and water-based drilling fluids with varied weighting agents, e.g., bentonite, calcium carbonate, or barite. Such thermochemical agents may involve two salts, e.g., NO2− and NH4+, which, when mixed together, can generate pressure and heat, in addition to hot H2O and/or N2. For example, the thermochemical agents may comprise Na+, K+, Li+, Cs+, Mg2+, Ca2+, and/or Ba2+ with NO2− and NH4+ with F−, Cl−, Br−, I−, CO32−, NO3−, ClO4−, and/or −OH. The thermochemical agents in combination with a chelator such as EDTA can removed the filter cake after 6 hours with a removal efficiency of 89 wt % for the barite filter cake in water based drilling fluid, exploiting the generation of a pressure pulse and heat which may disturb the filter cake and/or enhance barite dissolution and polymer degradation.

Abstract: Method of converting calcium bentonite to sodium bentonite that is suitable for use as drilling mud or a cement additive. The method comprises preparing a suspension comprising sea water and calcium bentonite at a pH in the range of 8-11, and continuously heating and stirring the suspension for a time in the range of 12 hours to 36 hours. Additives such as soda ash and sodium salt of ethylenediamineteraraacetc acid (EDTA) may be added to the suspension to improve the properties of the product sodium bentonite.

Abstract: A method for assessing an optimal acid injection rate in the process of hydrocarbon formation stimulation. The method comprises evaluating an anisotropic diffusion coefficient by pulsed gradient NMR, introduction of a semi-empirical correction based on comparison of the downhole conditions with the library of laboratory experiments where such corrections were measured, extrapolation of the library data to the real downhole conditions. The improved values of the diffusion coefficients are applied in determining wormhole regime conditions that are optimal in terms of acid consumption per a unit of stimulated yield of the hydrocarbon.

Abstract: Amidoamine-based gemini surfactants having dual chains connected via an arylene or heteroarylene linker. Each chain contains a quaternary ammonium head group and an ethoxylated alkyl tail. A water-based drilling fluid containing the gemini surfactant is also provided. As examined by linear swelling and free swelling tests, the gemini surfactant is effective in reducing clay swelling.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for dissolving an oil-based filter cake in a wellbore, and a single-step method of use. The composition comprises a chelating agent, a converting agent, a polymer removal agent, a mutual solvent, and a surfactant. The present invention also relates to a multi-step method of dissolving an oil-based filter cake using similar components. Both single-step and multistep methods may be used to dissolve oil-based filter cakes comprising barite as a weighting material.

Abstract: A method of removing a heterogeneous scale from a surface in fluid communication with a wellbore and/or subterranean formation comprising contacting the scale with a composition comprising tetrakis(hydroxmethyl)phosphonium sulfate (THPS) and N-(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediaminetriacetic acid (THEDTA) to dissolve the scale having a pH in the range of about 6.0 to 8.0. The composition is suitable to remove iron sulfide and calcium carbonate scale in the absence of corrosion resistance at a temperature up to about 150° C. Also, the composition may be used remove scale from surface pipe line and other petroleum oil handling equipment.
