    摘要: A multiple balloon catheter for use in a vessel of a patient and for use with an inflation/deflation device. A flexible elongate tubular member with proximal and distal extremities has a distal balloon mounted on the distal extremity of the flexible elongate tubular member. Coaxial inner and outer balloons are mounted on the distal extremity of the flexible elongate member proximal of the distal balloon. The flexible elongate tubular member has balloon inflation lumens therein in communication with the interiors of the distal balloon and the inner and outer coaxial balloons. A manifold is secured to the proximal extremity of the flexible elongate tubular member in communication with the inflation lumens and is adjusted to be coupled to the inflation/deflation device. Valves are carried by the inflation/deflation manifold for inflating the distal balloon in the inner and outer coaxial balloons one at a time or in unison without removal of the inflation/deflation device from the manifold.

    摘要: The present invention relates to a probe assembly for mapping and ablating pulmonary vein tissue and method of using the same. The probe assembly includes an expandable and collapsible basket assembly having multiple splines. One or more of the splines carry one or more electrodes adapted to sense electrical activity in the pulmonary vein tissue. The basket assembly defines an interior, and a microporous expandable and collapsible body is disposed in the interior of the basket assembly and defines an interior adapted to receive a medium containing ions. An internal electrode is disposed within the interior of the body and is adapted to transmit electrical energy to the medium containing ions. The body includes at least one microporous region having a plurality of micropores therein sized to pass ions contained in the medium without substantial medium perfusion therethrough, enabling ionic transport of electrical energy from the internal electrode, through ion-containing medium to an exterior of the body to ablate pulmonary vein tissue. In other aspects of the invention, the microporous body may be replaced by a non-porous expandable and collapsible body that receives a fluid medium for expanding the non-porous body to exclude blood from the electrodes on the splines, or the probe assembly may not include any expandable and collapsible body in the basket assembly interior (one or more electrodes on splines sense electrical activity in the pulmonary vein tissue and ablate the pulmonary vein tissue).

    摘要: In certain variations, methods, systems and/or devices for enhancing conductivity of an electrical signal through a subject's skin using one or more microneedle electrodes are provided. A microneedle electrode may be applied to the subject's skin by placing the microneedle electrode in direct contact with the subject's skin. The microneedles of the microneedle electrode may be inserted into the skin such that the microneedles pierce stratum corneum of the skin up to or through dermis of the skin. An electrical signal passes or is conducted through or across the microneedle electrode and the subject's skin, where impedance of the microneedle electrode is minimal and greatly reduced compared to existing technologies.

    摘要: A dilation catheter having a catheter shaft with an inner lumen for receiving a guidewire and an inflatable balloon member located at the distal portion of the shaft in fluid communication with the inner lumen. The catheter includes a distal seal disposed within the inner lumen of the shaft. The distal seal allows for movement of the guidewire relative to the inner lumen, while also providing for a fluid tight seal around the guidewire, independent of fluid pressure within the lumen, thereby both restricting a patient's blood from passing into the inner lumen and restricting media from the inner lumen from passing into the patient's bloodstream. A valve is located along the catheter shaft and adapted to engage the guidewire and provide for a fluid tight seal around the guidewire when fluid under pressure is applied to the interior of the balloon member. The valve can be surrounded by a perforated rigid sleeve connected to the shaft to provide additional structural support for the shaft at the valve location. As fluid pressure builds in the balloon, the valve is activated against the guidewire to form an additional fluid tight seal around the guidewire.
