摘要: A clamp for securing one or more data storage disks to a hub is formed as a slightly frusto-conical shaped annulus of resilient material with inwardly and upwardly extending lobes that are displaced radially outward during installation about a hub. Clamping force is derived from the compression of the lobes which are captured by the hub and the twisting of the annulus from the frusto-conical configuration to a substantially radial orientation. The clamp is formed of a material that is softer than the disk to cause the clamp to be compliant and conform to the disk irregularities and thereby avoid compromising disk flatness. The clamp component material composition is also modified to achieve a coefficient of linear expansion that is identical to the disk. The outer periphery of the clamp presents an interrupted flange that permits a tool to engage the clamp, perform the assembly about the hub and be disengaged using automated equipment.

摘要: At times a person may wish to lie on a chaise lounge in a prone position. The chaise lounge has a head support section that includes a head rest. The head rest has a T-shaped or triangular opening for accommodating the person's face. The head support section also has an area of reduced width to accommodate the person's arms. The person can thus hold and read a book or magazine located below the chaise lounge.

摘要: Magnetic storage tape and techniques for erasing and writing to magnetic storage tape having a perpendicular squareness greater than 50 percent and a longitudinal squareness less than 50 percent are described. In general, the magnetic tape may be biased with a remanence magnetization, or magnetic orientation, in any direction. One or two head systems may use various magnetic field patterns to create the desired remanence magnetization. Servo marks may have a remanence magnetization in an opposite magnetic orientation than that of the remaining bias on the servo track, e.g., substantially perpendicular to the magnetic tape. In some examples, a write head may alternate the direction of the magnetic field to continuously bias and write servo patterns to the magnetic tape. In addition, a symmetrical servo mark may be created in the magnetic tape with a write head having a gap width approximately equal to the length of the servo mark.

摘要: The invention is directed to techniques for storing information on a linear data storage medium, such as magnetic tape. According to the invention, a write head array concurrently writes a plurality of data tracks and at least one servo track onto the magnetic tape. In this way, the servo track is integrated between the data tracks. The servo track may, for instance, be located in the middle of a data band, and may span a distance corresponding to two data tracks. By concurrently writing the servo track with the data tracks, track misregistration (TMR) can be reduced or eliminated during the write operation.

摘要: The invention provides a read-while-write recording system for a linear data storage medium, such as magnetic tape or other data storage medium in which data is stored on parallel data tracks that extend along a length of the medium. The invention makes use of separate sliders for the read and write elements, and separate actuators to control the positioning of the sliders. Each of the sliders may also include servo elements to read servo marks. In order to limit the effect of movement of the first slider on the positioning of the second slider, a tape guide is implemented between the different sliders.

摘要: In general, the invention is directed to techniques for reducing deformation of tape in data tape cartridges during storage to promote dimensional stability and increased tape longevity. The techniques involve controlling the winding tension applied to a tape during a final winding pass prior to unloading a data tape cartridge containing the tape from a drive. Excessive winding tensions can produce strain and compression on a tape pack, causing the tape to deform over time. Applications of reduced winding tension during the final pass provide reduced tape pack tension during periods in which the data tape cartridge is not used.

摘要: Dispensable sheet material includes opposite side edges spaced apart from one another to define the overall width of the sheet material. Zones of weakness are spaced along the sheet material. Adjacent zones of weakness are spaced apart by a distance of from about 50% to about 200% of the overall width of the sheet material to divide the sheet material into a plurality of sheet material segments. Each of the zones of weakness comprises a plurality of perforations and frangible sheet material portions. Each of the frangible sheet material portions has a width of from about 0.3 mm to about 1.8 mm. The total width of the frangible sheet portions in each zone of weakness is from about 10% to about 30% of the overall width of the sheet material. The sheet material has an elasticity in the dispensing direction of from about 4% to about 20%. The sheet material has a dry tensile strength in the dispensing direction of from about 4,000 grams per 3 inches of width to about 12,000 grams per 3 inches of width. The sheet material has a wet tensile strength in the weakest direction, typically, a direction orthogonal to the dispensing direction, of at least about 900 grams per 3 inches of width. In addition, the sheet material has a tensile ratio of less than about 2.0. A dispensing system includes a dispenser defining an interior for containing the sheet material and an outlet for allowing sheet material to be dispensed from the interior of the housing.

摘要: A tape cartridge and cartridge drive system for controlling the compatibility of first and second tape cartridges having the same form factor in first and second tape drives. The system permits backward compatibility of the first tape cartridge in the second tape drive, while prohibiting the second tape cartridge from being used in the first tape drive. The second tape cartridge includes a tab projecting distally from a recess. The tab is positioned to contact the door actuator surface on the first tape drive so as to prevent insertion of the second tape cartridge into the first tape drive. The tab defines a cross-sectional area perpendicular to the insertion direction smaller than a gap in the door actuator assembly of the second tape drive to permit the second tape cartridge to be inserted into the second tape drive, whereby the second tape cartridge is compatible only with the second tape drive.
