    摘要: A recording tape cartridge which can be assuredly positioned in a drive device. A positioning cover bridges across and parallel to a mounting portion of a bucket of the drive device. Stoppers are provided at corner portions of the positioning cover that are positioned at a deeper side of the bucket. Angled surfaces, which are surface-contactable with the stoppers, are provided at a magnetic tape cartridge. The magnetic tape cartridge can be positioned in horizontal directions in the drive device by surface-contacting the angled surfaces with the stoppers. Consequently, reference holes for positioning the magnetic tape cartridge in horizontal directions in the bucket are not required.

    摘要: A recording tape cartridge comprises a single reel at which a recording tape is wound around a hub, a case rotatably accommodating the reel, an opening for pulling-out of a leader member attached to an end portion of the recording tape, and a tape guide which the recording tape slidingly contacts is provided within the case. After the recording tape slidingly contacts the tape guide, the recording tape is taken-up at a drive device, and therefore, traveling of the recording tape is stable. In this way, occurrence of reading errors of servo signals and recording/playback errors of data signals at a drive device can be reduced, even with recording tapes whose recording densities are improved.

    摘要: A tape cartridge in which adverse influences on windability attributed to at least one cause selected from entrapment of entrained air, vibration of tapes and flipping of tapes are suppressed is provided. The tape cartridge is composed of a case, a reel disposed inside the case, a band-like tape which can be wound onto the reel in a feedable way, a pressing member (e.g., touch roller) for pressing an unwound portion of the tape to a tape roll including a wound portion of the tape and the reel at a contact start point between the unwound portion and the tape roll during winding of the tape, and a position adjustment member for adjusting a position of the pressing member in conformity to changes in diameter of the tape roll while supporting the pressing member inside the case.

    摘要: A tape guide that includes multiple spaced grooves or a spiral groove in the surface of the hub to bleed air from between the surface of the hub and the tape. The distance between adjacent grooves or turns in the case of a spiral groove is 2.4 to 3.7 times greater than the width of each groove or turn. For tape guides used with null inch type data storage tapes that have a nominal tape width of 12.65 mm, the grooves or turns are 0.30 mm to 0.38 mm wide and spaced 0.90 mm to 1.12 mm center to center.

    摘要: A tape path having an implicit squeeze bearing. In such a tape path, one end of the tape is wound upon a first reel, the tape extends around one or more guides, briefly comes into close proximity with itself at the outer wrap of the tape wound upon the first reel, and is wound upon a second reel. By coming within close proximity with itself, the tape forms an implicit squeeze bearing which damps tape tension variation, inhibits the transmission of vibrations from one reel to the other, and eliminates the entrapment of entrained air without any additional rollers or other components. The tape path is suitable for use in a peripheral storage device, such as a magnetic tape drive, and is compatible with a variety of tape cartridge configurations.

    摘要: A pressure member for pressing a magnetic tape against the tape head of a magnetic tape transducing device is disclosed. The pressure member comprises a rotatable ring of resilient material which is urged towards the tape head so as to compress the resilient material. Preferably, the ring of resilient material is supported around the circumference of a hollow cylinder of rigid material which is rotatably mounted on an inner stationary cylinder which, in turn, is nonrotatably mounted on a fixed shaft having a noncircular cross section. The inner stationary cylinder is provided with a noncircular, preferably rectangular, axial bore which is complementary to the noncircular cross section of the fixed shaft. The rectangular complementary cross sections of the fixed shaft and the axial bore of the inner stationary cylinder are so arranged that gaps are formed between walls of the shaft and walls of the complementary rectangular bore. The spacing between the ring of resilient material and the tape head is adjusted by placing shims in the gaps so as to vary the position of the ring of resilient material in a direction or directions perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the shaft. The invention is especially applicable to magnetic tape transducing devices of the kind in which a cassette is operatively engageable in a receptacle in which the tape head is mounted, the pressure member being mounted on the cassette and the resilient ring being urged towards the tape head when the cassette is operatively engaged in the receptacle.
