摘要: Embodiments of the invention provide a magnetic disk device capable of improving the shielding function for the magnetic head yet maintaining a form factor. In one embodiment, a magnetic disk device comprises a magnetic disk; a magnetic head for recording/reproducing information; a magnetic disk drive mechanism for moving magnetic head in the radial direction of the magnetic disk; a housing including a base and a cover having a nonmagnetic material; and a magnetic shielding member having a magnetic material. The housing has a cut-away portion corresponding to a range in which the magnetic head moves, and the magnetic shielding member is formed in a U-shape including an upper wall portion, a side wall portion and a bottom wall portion. The magnetic shielding member covers the range in which the magnetic head moves, and is disposed in the cut-away portion so as to form substantially the same surface as the surfaces of the upper wall, side wall and bottom wall of the housing.

摘要: A ramp load type magnetic disk unit which prevents worn particles of a slide tab and a runway produced as a result of repetitive load/unload operations from falling onto the magnetic disk and which has low cost, high reliability and high recording density. A groove portion as a worn particle removing mechanism is provided at a home position on the runway where the magnetic head support assembly stands by after the unload operation is finished. At the groove portion, the magnetic head support assembly is vibrated at low frequencies to scrape off the particles. A worn particle collecting portion is provided near the groove portion so that an air flow generated by the rotation of the magnetic disk and directed toward the collecting portion blows the worn particles caught in the grooves into the particle collecting portion.

摘要: In magnetic disk structure having a high density, positioning errors (generally referred to as "flutter error") occur due to fluctuation (i.e., flutter) of a magnetic disk. As a result reading precision deteriorates. This is a significant problem in realizing a large capacity providing magnetic disk apparatus. This can be resolved by magnetic apparatus such that a suspension which holds a slider having a magnetic head at one end and which is attached to a supporting arm at the other end is inclined so that an interval between the suspension and the magnetic disk is small on the inner rim side and is large on the outer rim side with this arrangement the occurrence of the positioning error due to the fluctuation of a deformation of the magnetic disk is reduced, thereby enabling a high density recording of the magnetic disk.

摘要: A method of molding a plastic lens, in which: a pair of upper and lower molds are arranged to form a gap, corresponding to the thickness of the lens, therebetween; an adhesive tape is applied around the molds to define a cavity between the molds; and a plastic material is injected into the cavity. Optical axes of the molds are centered at respective positions of the molds. After the centering step, each of the molds is held with the centered optical axis. A height of each mold held is measured referring to a reference height. Displacements of the molds are determined on the basis of the measured heights of the molds and the reference height. The molds held are horizontally moved with the centered optical axes for axial alignment. The molds held are axially moved to form a predetermined mold gap between the molds on the basis of the determined displacements of the molds. Then, the adhesive tape is applied around the molds to define the cavity.

摘要: Embodiments of the present invention help to reduce out-of-plane excitation force exerted on a coil in a voice coil motor of a magnetic disk drive, so that vibration of a magnetic head is suppressed. According to one embodiment, a voice coil motor has a flat magnet that faces a coil, and generates a magnetic field, and yokes that apply the magnetic field generated by the magnet to the coil. The magnet is provided with a magnetic flux guiding section, absorbing leakage flux from the magnet, on a most distal end of the magnet as viewed from a pivot axis. A most distal part of the coil as viewed from the pivot axis, may be situated in an outer side with respect to the most distal end of the magnet, and the magnetic flux guiding section is provided between the most distal end of the magnet and the most distal part of the coil.
