Abstract: Infusion systems, infusion devices, and related operating methods are provided. An exemplary method of operating an infusion device involves obtaining one or more measurement values of a physiological condition in the body of a user during an initial monitoring period and determining a fasting reference value for a metric based on the one or more measurement values. After the initial monitoring period, the method continues by obtaining an updated measurement value during a fasting period, determining a current value for the metric based at least in part on the updated measurement value, and generating a notification in response to a deviation between the current value and the fasting reference value exceeding a threshold indicative of insertion site loss or other loss of effectiveness.

Abstract: An insulin infusion device includes a processor architecture, and a memory element that stores executable instructions to perform a method of controlling delivery of insulin to a user. The method operates the device in a closed-loop mode to deliver insulin, obtains patient-specific parameters for a current time sample, and estimates a plasma insulin value and a blood glucose value for the user based on at least some of the patient-specific parameters. The estimating is also based on a previously estimated plasma insulin value obtained for a previous time sample, and a previously estimated blood glucose value obtained for the previous time sample. A predicted sensor glucose value is generated for the current time sample, and the closed-loop mode or a safe basal mode is selected for controlling operation of the insulin infusion device in accordance with the selected mode.

Abstract: Infusion systems, infusion devices, and related operating methods are provided. An exemplary method of operating an infusion device capable of delivering fluid to a patient involves obtaining, by a control system associated with the infusion device, an input meal indication, obtaining historical data for the patient associated with the input meal indication, determining an estimated carbohydrate amount corresponding to the input meal indication based at least in part on the historical data, determining a bolus dosage of the insulin based at least in part on the estimated carbohydrate amount, and operating an actuation arrangement of the infusion device to deliver the bolus dosage of the insulin to the patient.

Abstract: Infusion systems, infusion devices, and related operating methods are provided. An exemplary method of operating an infusion device to deliver fluid to a body of a user involves obtaining measurement values for a physiological condition influenced by the fluid, autonomously operating the infusion device to deliver the fluid based at least in part on the measurement values, and detecting a nonactionable condition based on the measurement values. In response to detecting the nonactionable condition, delivery of the fluid is limited while maintaining autonomous operation of the infusion device. In one exemplary embodiment, the nonactionable condition is a rescue condition indicative of the user having consumed fast-acting carbohydrates, and thus insulin delivery may be automatically limited in response to detecting the rescue carbohydrate consumption.

Abstract: Techniques disclosed herein relate to configurable target glucose values. In some embodiments, the techniques may involve modifying a glucose setpoint from a first target value to a second target value, wherein the second target value is lower than the first target value. The techniques may further involve regulating a glucose level of a patient to the modified glucose setpoint by controlling insulin delivery. The techniques may further involve after a time period has elapsed, reverting the glucose setpoint to the first target value.

Abstract: Disclosed herein are techniques related to management of insufficient hypoglycemia response. In some embodiments, the techniques may involve obtaining an amount of insulin remaining in a body of a patient. The techniques may involve also obtaining a quantity of insulin needed by the patient within a future time period. Additionally, the techniques may involve identifying a condition in which the patient's glucose level will continue to decrease during the future time period despite suspension of basal insulin dosage delivery. The condition may be identified based on determining that the amount of insulin remaining in the body is greater than the quantity of insulin needed by the patient within the future time period. Furthermore, the techniques may involve, responsive to identifying the condition, causing performance of an action for preventing the patient's glucose level from falling into a hypoglycemic range in combination with the suspension of basal insulin dosage delivery.

Abstract: A processor-implemented method for closed-loop control in steady-state conditions includes determining, based on data including historical bolus information but excluding historical basal information, an amount of unmetabolized therapeutic substance in a patient; determining, based on a difference between a most recent measurement of a physiological condition of the patient and a target value for the physiological condition, a first amount or rate of a basal dosage for delivery to the patient; adjusting, based on the amount of unmetabolized therapeutic substance, the first amount or rate of the basal dosage to determine a second amount or rate of the basal dosage; and causing delivery of the second amount or rate of the basal dosage based on communicating the second amount or rate in a delivery command.

Abstract: Techniques related to temporary setpoint values are disclosed. The techniques may involve causing operation of a fluid delivery device in a first mode for automatically delivering fluid to a patient based on a first target glucose value. Additionally, the techniques may involve obtaining a second target glucose value. The second target glucose value may be a temporary target glucose value to be used for a specified period of time to regulate fluid delivery to the patient, and the second target glucose value may be greater than the first target glucose value. The techniques may further involve causing, based on obtaining the second target glucose value, operation of the fluid delivery device in a second mode for automatically delivering fluid to the patient. The second mode may be for reduced fluid delivery during the specified period of time.
