Abstract: A distance measuring apparatus continuously projects pulses of infrared radiation toward a target, the distance to which is to be determined. Position of incidence of reflected radiation upon position detection means is represented by a pair of electrical signals, which are fed through switches to a common signal line. By operating the switches, one of the electrical signals is integrated in a positive direction while the other signal is integrated in a negative direction. A value of distance measured is derived in terms of the ratio of the number of integrating operations either in the positive or the negative direction with respect to the total number of integrating operations.
