摘要: The invention is a high frequency hetrodyne receiver front end for receiving a communications signal comprising a desired information frequency and an undesired image frequency. The receiver comprises a bandpass filter, a preamplifier responsive to the bandpass filter, a mixer and a coupler means between the preamplifier and the bandpass filter. The coupler means defines a reactive short at the undesired image frequency due to impedance characteristics of the coupler means. The coupler means thereby eliminates the image frequency noise at the input of the preamplifier. Preferrably the coupler means is a transmission line of a length L where L equals .eta..pi./.beta. and .eta. is an integer and .beta. is proportional to the wavelength of the image frequency.

摘要: A circular polarized signal receiving antenna includes an active element having first and second ends separated by a gap. A dimension of the active element between the first and second ends thereof corresponds to approximately one wavelength of a resonant operating frequency of the antenna. A feed-point is coupled to the active element, wherein the feed-point is located approximately one-quarter of the wavelength from the first end of the active element and approximately three-quarters of the wavelength from the second end of the active element. In one embodiment, the feed-point is coupled to the active element.

摘要: An energy density diversity antenna (EDA) has a least a pair of antenna elements, whose feeding points are connected to outputs of a hybrid coupler configured such that a sum and a difference signal may exist at the feed points of the antenna elements. First reactive elements are respectively inserted in the antenna elements proximal the respective feed points. The antenna elements are joined at a point distal from the feed points by a second reactive element, and a third reactive element is coupled between feed lines coupled to the feed points at a location between the feed points and the outputs of the hybrid coupler.

摘要: A balanced antenna system for a communication device includes a balanced transmission line electromagnetically coupled to a transceiver of the device. A symmetrical dipole antenna element is operable at a first frequency driven by the balanced transmission line. A symmetrical loop antenna shares portions of the dipole antenna element and is operable at a second frequency driven by the transmission line. Preferably, the antenna system is disposed within a flip portion of the device housing.

摘要: This dual input antenna system has a first input which provides an impedance match over a first range of frequencies and a second input which provides an impedance match over a second range of frequencies. This effectively enables a narrow band antenna to operate and provide a matched condition at two separate frequency ranges. First and second longitudinal radiating elements are connected at respective ends by an approximate 1/2 wavelength transmission line. The other end of each radiating element is connected by transmission lines to a receive filter and transmit filter, respectively. The receive and transmit filters provide a substantial reactance outside of the respective passbands. The wavelengths of the first and second transmission lines are selected to transform the reactance of each filter into a value which will provide a match condition for the other transmission line at the respective frequency ranges.

摘要: A dual band antenna for a radio transceiver includes an inductively loaded conductor of a predetermined length with feedpoint located substantially central of the conductor. Radiator elements terminate the ends of the conductor and a ground plane terminates the radiator elements. An adjustable balanced impedance matching circuit is coupled to the feedpoint. Dual banding elements couple to the impedance matching circuit with a high Q, parallel resonant circuit element. Input and output circuits are also coupled to the dual banding elements. The design minimizes the effect on the antenna operation by the proximity of the user's hands and head since the high impedance portion of the antenna is confined to the center thereof.

In one method of making a Litz wire (142), a plurality of carbon nanotubes (144) is placed on a substrate (146). The carbon nanotubes (144) are woven according to a predefined scheme so as to form a Litz wire (142). An inductor may be formed by manipulating the Litz wire (100) to form a coil (150).

摘要: A multi-position antenna apparatus is provided for a device including a first housing portion and a second housing portion which are interconnected such that they move relative to one another between a collapsed position and an extended position. The device includes radio circuitry positioned in the first housing portion. The antenna apparatus includes a first antenna supported in the second housing portion. The first antenna is coupled to the radio circuitry in the extended position and in the collapsed position. A parasitic radiator is supported in the first housing portion and is only coupled to the first antenna when the housing is in the collapsed position. The parasitic radiator is a quarter wavelength of the signaling frequency or an integer multiple thereof. The parasitic radiator may include a member inductively or capacitively coupled to the first antenna when the flap is closed. Alternatively, the parasitic radiator may be a patch radiator or a loop conductor. An end of the parasitic radiator may be connected to ground.

摘要: A rotatable contactless RF signal coupler, which couples RF signals between an antenna and an RF signal processor in a portable radio, along with an antenna capable of operating in two modes is described herein. Specifically, the signal coupler includes a transformer that is primarily located within the hinge formed by the housing of the radio and a rotatable flip portion. Substantially constant inductive coupling is maintained in the coupler regardless of rotation. The antenna is capable of operating in a narrow band and a wide band mode to afford antenna operation through varied conditions.
