A thermoplastic molding composition comprising polycarbonate resin and additive, positive, amounts of stabilizer and salt is disclosed. The composition is characterized by its freedom from splay and by its improved flame retardance. The stabilizer of the invention is a physical mixture of poly(alkyl methacrylate) with fluorinated polyolefin, and the salt is an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of perfluoroalkane sulfonic acid, aromatic sulfimide, or aromatic sulfonic acid.

The compositions contains a resinous component selected from the group consisting of (i) a homogeneous blend of polycarbonate resin and polycaprolactone and (ii) a copoly(carbonate-lactone) block or random copolymer, and melanin in an amount of 0.1 to 1.0 parts per hundred parts of weight of the resinous component.

A melt-stable, pigmented thermoplastic molding composition is disclosed. Accordingly, to the composition which contains polycarbonate resin and pigment there is imparted an improved level of melt stability upon the incorporation therewith of an additive amount of a melt stabilizer conforming to ##STR1## where R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3 and n are defined. In an additional embodiment the invention relates to a color concentrate containing polycarbonate resin, up to 30% of a pigment and an effective amount of said stabilizer.

A thermplastic molding composition is disclosed which contains a homogeneous blend of a polycarbonate resin, an olefin-acrylate rubber terpolymer impact modifier and a flame retardant package which contains a fluorinated polyolefin, a halogenated phthalimide and an oligomeric carbonate. The ultraviolet stabilizer of the invention conforms to ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 denotes a hydrogen or a halogen atom or a C.sub.1-4 alkyl or alkoxy group,R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 independently represent a hydrogen atom, a C.sub.1-12 alkyl, a C.sub.1-4 alkoxy group, a phenyl or a phenoxy radical, andR.sub.4 denotes a C.sub.1-12 alkylene or a C.sub.6-30 arylene group. The invention relates to thermoplastic molding compositions comprising a polycarbonate resin which is rendered resistant to gamma radiation induced yellowing. It was surprisingly found that the incorporation in the resin of an effective amount of benzylic alcohol or its derivatized versions renders the composition resistant to yellowing. The composition of the invention is suitable for the preparation of molded articles having improved resistance to yellowing and to the formation of haze induced upon exposure to gamma radiation.

A moulding composition comprising a polycarbonate resin and an acrylate-based plating modifier was found to be suitable for preparing metal coated articles where the metal coating is deposited by an electroless process. In a preferred embodiment of the invention the moulding composition further comprise a flame retarding agent.
