    Abstract: A method of using an antenna system, comprising a transducer that is configured to transduce between wireless signals and wired signals and that is disposed between a ground conductor and a frequency selective surface, includes: providing constructive interference between a first signal of a first frequency and a reflected first signal comprising a reflection of a portion of the first signal by the frequency selective surface and the ground conductor; and providing constructive interference between a second signal of a second frequency, different from the first frequency, and a reflected second signal comprising a reflection of a portion of the second signal by the frequency selective surface and the ground conductor.

    Abstract: A beam steering antenna is provided in a user terminal for satellite communications. The beam steering antenna includes an antenna feed structure having a plurality of feed elements configured to be switched on or off to form an initial beam, and a focus lens positioned adjacent to the antenna feed structure to form a focused beam. The antenna feed structure may include a plurality of active waveguide feed elements to generate a circularly polarized initial beam. The focus lens may be a spherical lens to form a circularly polarized focused beam.

    Abstract: Techniques for providing multiple antennas in a wireless device using a compact configuration to achieve good isolation and broad bandwidth. In an aspect, first and second monopole elements that may be separately driven are provided on opposite sides of a grounding strip conductively coupled to a common grounding structure. By capacitively coupling the first and second monopole elements to the common grounding structure, the effective resonator size of each monopole antenna is increased, thus achieving better performance for the antenna structure. Illustrative patterns for the common grounding structure and other antenna elements are further disclosed.

    Abstract: In an aspect of the disclosure, a method and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a wearable communication apparatus for wireless communication. The wearable communication apparatus includes communication circuitry, a bezel, and a base. The bezel and the base are conductive. The bezel and the base form at least a part of a housing structure supporting the communication circuitry. The base is electrically connected to the bezel. The communication circuitry is electrically connected to the bezel. The bezel is configured to function as a part of a slot antenna. The communication circuitry is configured to send a first communication signal to the bezel such that the bezel transmits the first communication signal over the air. The bezel is further configured to receive, over the air, a second communication signal and direct the second communication signal to the communication circuitry.

    Abstract: An antenna structure is disclosed that includes a first antenna extending from a substrate, a second antenna formed on the substrate, and first and second parasitic elements formed on the substrate. The first antenna provides an omni-directional radiation pattern in the azimuth plane for vertically polarized signals, and the second antenna provides an omni-directional radiation pattern in the azimuth plane for horizontally polarized signals. The parasitic elements absorb and re-radiate electromagnetic waves radiated from the second antenna.
