Abstract:
A magnetic resonance magnet assembly 20 has a coil form 70 shaped as a hollow cylinder. At least two thermally conductive sheets 60 are disposed circumferentially around the coil form 70, separated by a non-electrically conductive region 90. Thermally conductive tubing 50 affixed to each thermally conductive sheeting section 60 runs circumferentially around the coil form 70. At least one layer of thermally conductive electrically insulating material 110 such as fiber glass is bonded with a thermally conductive epoxy encapsulant to the thermally conductive sheets 60. A winding of superconductive wire 80 is bond together and to the electrically insulating material 110 with the thermally conductive epoxy encapsulant.
Abstract:
A computer system having a kernel for mapping virtual memory address space to physical memory address space. The computer system uses a method for performing an input/output operation. A physical memory buffer is registered with a subsystem, and the physical memory buffer is associated with a first virtual address, a size and a key. The physical memory buffer is dynamically associated with a second virtual address which is different from the first virtual address. As part of an application program an input/output operation is requested regarding the second virtual address. An application table is used to obtain the first virtual address, the key and the size. The first virtual address, the key and the size are supplied to the subsystem. The subsystem uses the first virtual address, the key and the size, to determine the physical memory buffer and performs an input/output operation using the physical memory buffer without intervention of the kernel.
Abstract:
An ergonomic support mountable on various seat frames has a static portion with anchors and mounts. The mounts adapt to fix said static portion to varying seat frames. An active portion is operatively engaged with the anchors of the static portion such that the active portion can move in and out of a plane defined by the frame of the seat. The active portion has a pressure surface with a smooth base level. There are convexities in the base level that impart a massage effect on a seat occupant. At least one actuator engages the active portion but only by an actuating linkage.
Abstract:
A method and system for implementing coalescing write IOs for an electronic and computerized system is disclosed. The electronic and computerized system has a buffer cache storing data blocks waiting for being written into a disk of the electronic and computerized system. Dirty data blocks with consecutive data block addresses in the buffer cache are coalesced and written to the disk together. Thus, the disk head movements for performing the write IOs are significantly reduced, thereby allowing the electronic and computerized system to maintain a high IO throughput and high peak performance with fewer disks.
Abstract:
An integrated circuit system and method provides a reliable low voltage reference including undervoltage lockout capabilities that prevent a premature or false response. A physical constant trigger circuit initiates a response based upon a physical constant (e.g. a stable point associated with a voltage summation in a transistor circuit with components configured to produce equal and opposite temperature coefficients). A response includes changing polarities of the transistor circuit at a predetermined inflection point. A comparator compares signals from the physical constant trigger circuit and determines when a change occurs in the response. A voltage divider provides a varying voltage to the physical constant trigger and when the voltage level corresponds to the physical constant it is utilized as the reference voltage. An input signal port conveys an input signal to the voltage divider and output port conveys an indication of the response (e.g., a desired reference voltage is available).
Abstract:
A method for performing a checkpointing operation in a client/server computer system for safeguarding data in case of a failure. The records of a database are stored in a mass storage device, such as a hard disk drive array. A separate disk drive is dedicated for use only in conjunction with checkpointing. Periodically, when a checkpoint process is initiated, the server writes a number of its modified records to checkpoint files which are stored by the dedicated checkpoint disk drive. The write operation is performed through one or more sequential I/O operations. Thus, the modified records are stored in consecutive sectors of the hard disk drive. If the server becomes disabled, the data can be recovered by reading the contents of the most recent checkpoint files and loading the contents sequentially back to the server's main memory.
Abstract:
In a client/server computer system, a method for writing modified data in a cache memory back to a database residing in a hard disk drive. Rather than writing back all of the modified data as part of a checkpointing operation, the present invention designates an amount of the cache memory that is to be cleared for a pre-determined time interval. The amount of cache memory to be cleared is based on an estimate of how much new data is anticipated to be cached. Thereby, just enough memory is cleared and made available so as to accommodate the storage of new data. For the modified data which are to be written back to the database, a lazy writeback operation is utilized.
Abstract:
An apparatus for sensing current in a switching device having resistive voltage-current characteristics includes a first and second power terminal (typically common or ground) for the application therebetween of an operating potential (or alternatively, power), an impedance connected between the first power terminal and a node, a switching device having its main conduction path connected between the node and the second power terminal for controlling the flow of current through the impedance, at least one sense device coupled to the node, operative to sense or divide the potential at the node to thereby provide a sensing potential, where at least one of the sense devices is switched only during at least a portion of the period when the switching device is turned on, and a voltage reference generating circuit operative to generate a reference voltage for comparison with the sensed potential. A method for sensing current in a switching device having resistive voltage-current characteristics, samples the potential at a node connecting the switching device to the impedance only during at least a portion of the period when the switching device is tuned on, to generate a sensed potential, generates a reference potential for comparison with the sensed potential.

A self-contained portable salad bar formed of two interconnected containers that are secured together for transportation to a remote location. Each of the containers define a plurality of individual receptacles with associated closures. The interconnected containers are secured together by an interconnecting locking bar latch mechanism forming a transportable closed case with a transportation carrying strap exposed.
Abstract:
A vacuum-tight window construction for the passage of X-ray and similar penetrating radiation, the edge of the window having the shape of a tube and being tightly secured with a tube-shaped frame. The connection between the window and the frame is effected by a press-fit combination of three tube-shaped parts one into the other. One part is the tubular edge of the window, the second part is the edge of the frame, and the third part is an additional ring, the materials being selected such that the coefficient of thermal expansion of the outermost part is lower than that of the part disposed in the middle, and that of the innermost part is at least equal to that of the outermost part and less than that of the center part. The outermost and innermost parts can be composed of steel, and the middle part of pure or alloyed aluminum.
