摘要:
An ink jet recording apparatus for recording on a recording material with ink includes an ink jet recording head mounting portion, an ink jet recording head, a base plate, a feeder and a mounting device. The mounting portion is for mounting the recording head. The recording head has ejection outlets converged in a direction of ink ejection and inclined relative to the base plate. The feeder feeds the recording material. The mounting device is for mounting the ink jet recording head on the mounting portion so that the direction of ink ejection from the ink ejection outlets of the recording head is perpendicular to the recording material.

An ink jet apparatus includes an ink jet head having in energy generator which car, generate energy employed for discharging ink as a droplet from a discharge port, and a control unit for controlling the energy generated from the energy generator so as to remove ink droplets, which adhere to a discharge port surface, by spreading the meniscus of the ink projecting from the discharge port on the discharge port surface. The apparatus is therefore capable of removing floating ink mist particles which adhere to the ink jet head.

An ink jet recording apparatus comprises an ink jet head having an ink path communicating with a discharge opening for discharging ink; electrodes arranged in said ink path; a residual ink quantity detection means for detecting residual ink quantity in said ink path in accordance with a resistance value, current value or voltage value from said electrodes; and a correction means for correcting said resistance value, current value or voltage value in accordance with the difference in a resistance of the ink. This enables the correction means to compensate for different ink resistances and thus provide accurate residual ink detection even when different inks are used or ink resistance changes because of a change in ambient conditions.

In order to record an image having an excellent gradient by using inks of different densities, image data for dark ink and light ink are generated in accordance with the received image data. The generated data for dark ink is converted into a binary signal which is suitable for reproducing the resolution, while data for light ink is converted to another binary signal which is suitable for expressing gradient. In accordance with these binary signals, the discharge of each ink is controlled so as to record the image.

A method of exchanging a waste ink pack that stores waste ink discharged by repeated ink clearing operations performed on an ink jet head involves comparing a cumulative number of times the ink clearing operation have been performed using a particular waste ink pack with upper limit data based on the capacity of the waste ink pack. When the cumulative number reaches the upper limit data, an indication is provided that the waste ink pack should be exchanged for a new one, after which exchange a previous instruction to a recovery device to perform an ink clearing operation is performed. Ink clearing operations are then repeated with that waste ink pack until the number of such operations again reaches the upper limit data.

This invention relates to an ink jet recording apparatus with a support member for supporting an ink jet recording head for effecting recording by ink discharge onto a recording material, comprising: recording material transport means for transporting the recording material from a feeding position through a recording position to a discharge position; and recovery means for maintaining and restoring the ink discharge state of said ink jet recording head. The driving source for driving the recording material transport means or support member is also used for driving the recovery means, and, when the power supply to the apparatus is turned on, the initial operations of at least the recording material transport means and the recovery means are conducted utilizing a single sensor.

An ink jet recording apparatus includes ink ejecting outlets for ejecting ink, an ink container for containing the ink to be supplied to the ejecting outlets, ink supply passage for supplying the ink from the container to the ejecting outlets, a recovery system for forcedly ejecting the ink through the ejecting outlets. The recovery system repeats the forced ejecting action, and a quantity of the ink ejected by one forced ejecting action is larger than an inside volume of the ink supply passage.

Replacement of a recording head on a recording apparatus is detected on the basis of a serial number allocated to each recording head. The recording head also carries head characteristic information such as color information, shading information and so forth. When the recording head is replaced with a new one, the head characteristic information of the newly mounted recording head is automatically stored, so that head driving conditions are automatically determined to optimize the recording conditions without requiring any manual adjustment. Recovery operation is automatically executed when replacement of the recording head is detected, so that required recording conditions are recovered without manual instructions.
