    摘要: When a piezoelectric element is deformed in the direction of decreasing a flying height, a pressure at a trailing pad increases, and the flying height of a magnetic head is not efficiently decreased and may be increased conversely in some occasions.A position of contact between a suspension and a dimple is set toward a leading edge with respect to a piezoelectric element, and a pad for generating a positive pressure is disposed between the dimple and the piezoelectric element in addition to a trailing pad. Fluctuations of a positive pressure generated toward the leading edge with respect to the dimple are thus suppressed when the piezoelectric element is deformed.

    摘要: [Problem] In a thermally assisted magnetic recording head support mechanism, an increase in the temperature of a heat source for supplying an optical near-field transducer with light, due to heat generation by the heat source, is checked while holding back an increase in weight of a slider and lessening transmission loss of light.[Solution] The thermally assisted magnetic recording head support mechanism is made up such that a suspension 5 has one end holding a slider 4 on which a magnetic head 3 having a read element 31, write element 32, and an optical near-field transducer 34 is mounted, and the other end of the suspension 5 is held by a carriage 6. The optical block 15 provided with one light source 10, and an optical switching mechanism capable of switching a guidance destination of irradiated light from light source 10 is attached to an arm 62 or a support 61 of the carriage 6 having a wide heat release area, thereby guiding light from the optical block 15 to the optical near-field transducer 34 via an optical waveguide 14.

    摘要: In a thermally assisted magnetic recording head having a light source and a waveguide to lead a laser beam radiated from the light source to a front end of the magnetic head, while blocking an adverse effect of heat generated in the light source and securing a good floating characteristic, the light source and the magnetic head are optically coupled with high efficiency and the magnetic head itself is reduced in size. This invention provides a reflection mirror that is formed of a part or whole of one inclined end surface of the semiconductor laser mounted on the first submount. Near one end surface of the slider is provided the optical waveguide that pierces through the slider in a direction of the thickness thereof. The slider is mounted on the second submount and the positions of the first submount and the second submount are adjusted to practically align the light axis of the beam emitted from the mirror with the light axis of the optical waveguide, thereby realizing a novel thermally assisted magnetic recording head.
