    Abstract: Methods, devices, systems and computer program products are provided to facilitate signaling of digital rights management (DRM) information that is carried within a multimedia content as digital watermarks. The embedded watermarks enable signaling of a change in trustworthiness of particular DRM technology, enable addition of new DRM technologies to a trusted list of technologies, and facilitate revocation of obsolete or untrustworthy technologies. Once a content is received at a receiver that is equipped with a watermark extractor, extraction of watermark symbols from the content allows the determination of change in trustworthiness of DRM technologies associated with the content.

    Abstract: Methods, devices, systems and computer program products facilitate embedding and extraction of transactional watermarks into and from a video content. One method for selecting an area for watermark insertion includes selecting a candidate area within a frame of the video content that is smaller in size that the frame itself, adding a first and a second watermark value to obtain corresponding first and second versions of the area, add noise to each of the first and second versions, and perform watermark extraction operations to obtain corresponding correlation values for the selected area. The above operations are repeated using different areas that are selected at pseudo-random offset values from the previously selected areas until the entire video frame is exhausted. One or more areas with the highest correlation value(s) are selected and designated as areas that are suitable for watermark insertion.

    Abstract: Methods, devices and computer program products are described that improve acquisition of metadata that is associates with a multimedia content, such an audio or video content. In one exemplary method, the multimedia content is received at a first device that is equipped with a watermark detector and watermark extraction operations are conducted to detect a plurality of watermark messages. Each watermark message includes a server code and an interval code. In this method, a server Internet Protocol (IP) address is obtained that corresponds to a server that stores at least a portion of the metadata associated with the multimedia content. The IP address corresponds to at least one of the server codes detected from the plurality of watermark messages. According to the above method, the metadata is requested from the server having the server IP address, and a response including the metadata associated with the multimedia content is received.

One method includes performing watermark detection on a content that is received at a receiver device to detect one or more watermarks. At least one of the detected watermark includes a payload with a server code and an interval code. The method includes forming a uniform resource locator (URL) based on the watermark payload. The URL includes a first section with server domain name the includes at least a portion of the server code. The URL also includes a second section that includes at least a portion of the interval code. Upon transmission of a request based on the URL using a hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) for delivery to a metadata server, a response is received that includes metadata associated with the content.

    Abstract: Systems, devices, methods and computer program products respond to real-time piracy of broadcast streams. One method includes receiving requests from a requesting device for a plurality segments of a real-time content, where at least one of the requested content segments differs from another segment of the plurality of segments in at least one characteristic. In response to the request, a particular version of the requested segments is transmitted to the requesting device such that a unique sequence of the transmitted segments identifies the requesting device or a user or a transaction. A communication network is then monitored to obtain a disseminated version of the real-time content, and based on the at least one characteristic of the obtained real-time content, it is determined if the real-time content includes the unique sequence of segments, and if so, one or more actions are initiated to thwart further dissemination of the real-time content.

    Abstract: Methods, devices, systems and computer program products facilitate embedding and extraction of transactional watermarks into and from a video content. One such method includes selecting a first number of frames from a video content and performing temporal and a spatial psychovisual analysis on the selected frames. For each selected frame, at least one area for insertion of watermarks is identified. A first and a second watermark symbol is embedded separately in the identified area(s), and the embedded frames are re-encoded to obtain a first and a second alternative data. An inserter manifest is formed that includes the first and the second alternative data to enable insertion of a watermark into the video content by selecting one or the other of the first and second alternative data for insertion into the video content.

    Abstract: The disclosed embodiments relate to media devices implementing new television standards, such as ATSC 3.0, which includes audio/video essence and metadata/signaling. The disclosed embodiments include techniques for confirming an association between two media devices by augmenting media content with a watermark using an upstream device, wherein the watermark conveys an identifier. The media content is sent from the upstream device to a downstream device and the watermark is detected using the downstream device. The identifier is transmitted to a server upon the detection of the watermark using the downstream device. The server identifies an association between the upstream and downstream devices upon receipt of the identifier from the downstream device.
