Abstract: There is provided an orthopedic device for therapy and rehabilitation of knee joints and the like which includes a flexible wraparound style boot which substantially supports a user's foot and ankle. The boot includes an interior for receiving the user's foot, heel and toe portions, and a substantially open front portion for easy insertion and withdrawal of a user's foot. An adjustable closure spans across the open front portion to help conform the boot to the user's foot without unnecessary binding, and a pair of manipulation straps extend from opposite sides of the toe portion of the boot adjacent the substantially open portion. A pair of grasping handles are attached to respective manipulation straps to provide exercise and flexion control by the patient. The device insures proper line of pull and anatomically correct splay. In a preferred embodiment, the flexion straps are adjustable in length adjacent the handles to facilitate adjustment by the patient for optimal use.

Abstract: A knee exercising device is described. It provides for the manual control of pressure to the lower leg in selectively flexing either the right or left leg knee joint. The device includes a plate member interposed between the users buttocks and a chair sear on which the user is sitting. The leg of the knee being exercised is held in an elevated position by a pad between the thigh of that leg and the chair seat. A lever is pivotally mounted, intermediate its length, on the plate member. The lever swings in a vertical plane between the users legs about an axis generally vertically aligned with and parallel to the axis of the knee joint being exercised. A leg engaging pad is removably mounted on the lower end portion of the lever. The removable mounting enables the pad to be selectively positioned to engage the front, shin portion or rear calf portion or either leg, at an area adjacent to and spaced above the user's foot.

Abstract: An exercise machine for restoring lost movement to joints and muscles includes a base to which a chair upon which the user is seated may be mounted, to prevent the machine from tipping, and includes a vertical standard mounting a rotatable handlebar assembly and a crank assembly. The handlebar assembly includes a sloping stem rotatable on the vertical standard and handlebars rotatable on the upper sloping end of the stem, whereby propelling the handlebars about for a circular path of the stem upper end provides a wide range of movement to the arms and upper torso. The crank assembly is made up of upper and lower bicycle-type crank mechanisms, for the arms and legs, coupled by a V-belt so that strong, readily moved legs may be utilized to restore movement to arms whose range of movement is impaired, or vice-versa.

Abstract: An exoskeleton wheelchair system includes a base, one or more wheels coupled to the base, a body support connected to the base comprising: a back support; and one or more leg supports pivotally coupled to the back support, and a gait wheel linked with the one or more leg supports via one or more gait linkages and configured to rotate the one or more leg supports. The one or more leg supports are configured to pivot about a first axis when the back support is in a standing position mode. The back support is maintained at a fixed position relative to a location of the base when the one or more leg supports pivot about the first axis while the back support is in the standing position mode.

Abstract: A lower extremity mobilizer for use in rehabilitation is provided. A seat is slidably maintained upon a base, with a foot support brace being provided at an end of the base to receive the foot of a leg provided for arthrokinematic treatment. A cord and pulley system is provided between the seat and the end of the base. In use, a patient is seated with a foot received by the foot support brace. The patient provides arthrokinematic motion to his leg by pulling himself and the seat toward the end of the device having the foot support brace. The procedure is undertaken in a closed chain motion, with the foot constantly engaging the foot support brace, and is done so as a rate, timing and extent under the control of the patient.

Abstract: The invention may be embodied in a physical therapy or health maintenance stretching system including a frame configured for engaging a treated leg of a user at or near the popliteal space of the treated leg to allow a knee of the treated leg to bend inwards in response to gravitational force affecting a lower portion of the treated leg. The frame may be further configured to allow a knee of the treated leg to bend inwards in response to a user force directly or indirectly applied to the lower portion of the treated leg.
