Abstract: A winglet in a planing hull for sailboards with longitudinal length at least three times its transverse width, or a top slot that covers at least half the winglet area, and a forward slot and or a top slot, which allows dynamic lift from both the top and bottom surface of the winglet when the board is traveling at a transition speed between displacement mode and planing mode, but at high planing speed it does not normally have lift from the top surface of the winglet. This winglet may have a camber/slope step on the planing surface. In addition the transverse section of the nose of the hull can have the shape of an upside down wing.

Abstract: High performance of a sailboard is achieved over a wider range of wind and water conditions by providing a hull having two or more planing surfaces which may differ in shape and/or aspect ratio. Drag due to suction at steps between planing surfaces is reduced by venting to the air. Cusp shaping of the respective planing surfaces can reduce and stabilize the angle of attack at the displacement/planing transition without causing fore-and-aft pitching effects known as porpoising. By confining water under the planing surfaces to reduce lateral outflow thereof through increased downward curvature of the bottom of the board, winglets, asymmetrical fins, fences and the like, the effective width and aspect ratio of the wetted area may be altered beyond that of the actual geometry of the planing surfaces to further increase lift and reduce drag while providing additional sources of lift at displacement, transitional and planing speeds. Steps and/or cambered shapes of the planing surface may be used to dramatically further reduce wetted area and further increase effective aspect ratio.

Abstract: A ski structure for use with a boat hull to support the hull above the water when the boat is underway, the ski structure comprising an air tight housing in the form of an inverted U-shaped shell and a floor which forms a main ski surface and which extends between opposite sides of the U-shaped shell. The ski structure also includes a pair of assist skies or glides positioned lower than the main ski surface which extend substantially the length of the shell and which are adapted to plane on the surface of the water.

Abstract: The present invention comprises systems and methods of utilizing hull arrangements that combine aerodynamic and hydrodynamic effects to provide marine vessels with broader ranges of performance capabilities. The combination hull arrangements variously combine V-hulls, slot aspects, topographic features, and other hull characteristics that enable a vessel to retain the primary performance benefits of conventional V-hulls and achieve assorted improvements. Embodiments of the slot-V hull system employ specifically shaped hull characteristics to influence the manners in which water, air, and air/water spray mixtures interact with the vessel's hull. One principal operative effect can enable a vessel with the slot-V hull system to achieve a planing attitude more rapidly and efficiently than a standard V-hull.

Abstract: A personal watercraft having improved bottom hull shapes in general, and improved center keel shapes in particular. The center keel can have a substantial section over which the keel angle becomes sharper progressing from front to rear, and the concavities on either side of the center keel become deeper progressing from front to rear. The center keel can have a point of maximum downward slope on either side of the keel centerline, with the maximum vertically downward slope becoming greater with greater rearward distance over a section of the personal water craft bottom hull. The bottom hull can have keel troughs on either side of the keel centerline that become deeper over a section of the personal watercraft bottom hull, traveling from front to rear over that selected section of personal watercraft bottom hull. The center keel shape can provide a smoother ride and improved handling in rough water. When the bottom hull is in the water, the sharper keel angle and deeper troughs leading to the transition region and the tunnel of the watercraft can more effectively channel water to the tunnel and to the jet pump.

Abstract: A hydrofoil craft, particularly a method of economically modifying a conventional hull with cambered foils to obtain and calculate increased lift from dense spray and to achieve enhanced craft performance is disclosed. The present invention improves speed, fuel efficiency and rough water stability, reduced pitch and vertical accelerations. A catamaran or V-bottom hull is modified with chine mounted aerofoils, flexible dihedral cambered foils positioned beneath the water line and on either side of the bow so as to create turbulence in the forward end of a tunnel(s). Tunnels are created on the V-bottom hull by the chine mounted aerofoils. Fixed forward tunnel cambered foil(s) and/or fixed or adjustable center tunnel cambered foils at the stern end of the tunnel to generate lift from pressure caused by dense spray in the tunnel(s) may also be provided. Adjustable cambered stern foils are mounted on the transom end of the tunnels.

Abstract: A hull of a ship has a front hull part (10) with a deep V-shape contour having an angle gradually increasing from fore to aft to become 180 degrees in a rear hull part (14) with chines extending according to a side hull contour. The chines, starting from the stern, have a lower edge which is situated under the waterline (20) astern of the midship cross section and then raises such that they are radiused with the front hull part (10).

Abstract: The invention is an improved aluminum water craft using a plurality of aluminum pontoons to stabilize the craft. The hull of the craft has a truncated “U” shape with a first horizontal section and a second raised bow section. The hull is made from a single piece of construction material and includes a plurality of equally spaced apart concave-shaped reinforcing ribs pressed into the top surface of the construction sheets prior to forming the hull. The ribs provide additional rigidity and strength to the hull. The plurality of pontoons join to form a segmented, un-pressurized, water-tight, air filled floatation collar around the hull of the water craft. The pontoon segments are separated by bulkhead plates. The pontoons are inclined from the horizontal to promote smooth travel over turbulent water. The pontoons are constructed from single sheets of construction material. A plurality equally spaced and parallel reinforcing ribs pressed into the rectangular sheets. The sheets are then rolled into the cylindrical shaped pontoons and welded.
