A vessel (1) has at least three cavities that are distributed across the bottom in the length direction along a line extending from the center line near the bow, to a respective side. Furthermore, the vessel accommodates for each cavity or pair of cavities on opposite sides of the center line at a predetermined length position, a corresponding compressor for injecting air into the cavity at a pressure substantially corresponding to the hydrostatic pressure in each cavity. Each cavity (33) may include a deflector that has an elongate part (29, 34, 34′) extending in the length direction of the cavity over at least at least 5%, preferably at least 10% of the cavity length L. An air inlet opening (23) may be provided in the top wall (19).

A ship and associated methods of operation. In an example embodiment, a method of transporting includes providing multiple vessels each having a hull defining an air cavity over a water surface. Different ones of the vessels are loaded with material destined for different end locations. The vessels are connected to one another with rigid couplings to effect tandem movement of the multiple vessels over water as one ship while permitting each vessel to undergo changes in pitch. The vessels are transported to a first destination and one or more of the vessels are disconnected from the ship.

A device for reducing frictional resistance includes: a chamber which is provided to a draft part of a hull and in which blowing holes blowing out air into the water of the outside of the hull from different positions to each other in a height direction of the hull are formed; a supply pipe supplying the air to an internal space of the chamber; and a distributor provided to each of the blowing holes, and guiding a part of the air, which was supplied inside the chamber from the supply pipe, to each of the blowing holes. The plurality of distributors has a flow-amount adjuster adjusting a flow amount of the air guided to the blowing hole corresponding to each of the distributors so that the flow amount of the air blown out from the plurality of blowing holes is equalized in each of the blowing holes.

A water craft comprising: an elongated hull comprising a passageway having an inlet and an outlet; a pump jet disposed within said passageway intermediate said inlet and said outlet; said pump jet being configured to receive water entering said passageway through said inlet and pump said water out of said outlet, whereby to propel said hull through water; a plurality of nozzles disposed on the outer surface of said hull, aft of said inlet, wherein said plurality of nozzles are configured to release a friction-reducing fluid, whereby the friction-reducing fluid displaces water from the surface of said hull so as to diminish friction on the outer surface of said hull and facilitate high speeds.

This present invention is a more economical method and apparatus for compressing gas or other compressible fluids in high volumes at any desired pressures for any desired purpose. One preferred use is for generating high volumes of air capable to be delivered at any drafts for the purpose of lubricating ships motions and accordingly lowering their drag, fuel consumption and harmful emissions.

A flat-bottomed vessel for transporting persons or goods, the vessel including a drag reduction system attached to the bottom of the vessel. The drag reduction system includes: two or more turbulence members extending perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the vessel for generating an area with turbulent flow downstream to the turbulence members at the bottom of the vessel during movement. Additionally, for each turbulence member an air injector can be used to inject an air flow at or near to the turbulence members.

A marine vessel comprising: a command module; first and second buoyant tubular foils; and first and second struts for connecting the first and second buoyant tubular foils to the command module, respectively; wherein the first and second buoyant tubular foils provide substantially all of the buoyancy required for the marine vessel; and wherein the marine vessel further comprises first and second engines enclosed within the first and second buoyant tubular foils, respectively, and first and second propulsion units connected to the first and second engines, respectively, for moving the marine vessel through the water.

A watercraft includes a sterndrive comprising an inboard engine and an outdrive that extends through the transom. The aft end of the hull includes a stepped tunnel, which allows the sterndrive propellers (or other drives) to be operated at a relatively higher position in the water, without unduly decreasing the propeller performance. The stepped tunnel is vented to atmospheric pressure.
