Abstract: An aggregate spreader for spreading a layer of loose aggregate onto a road surface includes a first hopper for receiving the loose aggregate, a plurality of gates or other suitable means associated with the first hopper for dispensing the loose aggregate onto the road surface, a plurality of sensors or other suitable means for sensing characteristics of the road surface, and an electronic controller or other means responsive to the sensors or sensing means and operably associated with the gates or dispensing means for controlling the placement of the layer of loose aggregate onto the road surface. In the preferred embodiment, each of the gates is independently controllable by an associated actuator, and the electronic controller is in electronic communication with the sensing means and in electronic communication with the plurality of actuators for controlling the placement of the layer of loose aggregate onto the road surface by independently controlling each gate of the plurality of gates. The sensing means may be accomplished through many different kinds of devices, including heat sensors, photoelectric sensors, optical sensors, temperature sensors, and the like.

Abstract: A system and method for the application of friction-modifying coatings to roadways, walkways, pathways and other areas subject to vehicular, human or animal traffic, the system and method comprising the controlled, simultaneous application of binder and filler to a surface of a substrate, using a mobile device which passes over the substrate as the binder and filler are being applied. The system includes a mobile platform configured for being coupled to a vehicle. A binder applicator is mounted on the mobile platform and includes an array of spray nozzles coupled to a resin container. An air knife is mounted on the mobile platform and coupled to an air compressor for generating an air curtain. An aggregate dispenser bar including at least one aggregate dispenser is coupled to an aggregate bin and mounted on the mobile platform for dispensing aggregate.

Abstract: A flow gate includes first and second body members, first and second flow control members, and first and second locking mechanisms. The first and second body members operatively attach to and detach from each other. The first and second flow control members adjust between an open position, a closed position, and a plurality of partially opened positions. The first and second locking mechanisms selectively prevent and allow adjustment of the first and second flow control members. Abstract: A vehicle for spreading products on a road surface, in particular de-icing or friction-producing products, including distribution means adapted to spread said products, electronic control means cooperating with said distribution means to adjust spreading parameters, positioning means for generating a position signal correlated with the position of said vehicle, said electronic control means cooperating with said positioning means for controlling said spreading parameters in response to said position signal so as to associate said spreading parameters with the current position of said vehicle. According to the invention, the control means are vector-based, the control means also being adapted to control the spreading parameters in response to the speed and direction of said vehicle. Abstract: A truck in accordance with the present invention includes a dump body, a truck frame with a rear axle, a lift system, and a conveying system. The dump body is defined by a unitary floor, a pair of sidewalls which extend tip from opposite sides of the floor, and a front wall and a back wall located on opposite sides of the floor and extending between the sidewalls. The dump body is pivotally connected to the truck frame adjacent to the back wall. Abstract: A hydraulic system is provided including a hydraulic pump which is continuously coupled with the engine of a utility such as a dump truck utilized for snow-ice removal. When hydraulic implements employed on the truck are not actuated, the pump operates in a cavitation mode. During this cavitation mode of operation, there is no ingress of air through seals or the like to a venting of the gear pump chamber essentially to tank or atmosphere. A poppet valve is actuated in conjunction with periodic use of hydraulic elements on the truck to actuate the pump to an operational or pressurized mode. A key actuated calibrating system is employed to calibrate snow-ice removal components in a secure manner. Calibration is provided in conjunction with EEPROM memory.

Abstract: An adaptable material-spreading vehicle includes in combination a truck body frame, a rear-mounted engine on the frame above the rear wheels, a forward cab, a removable hopper positioned between the cab and the rear-mounted engine, and a conveyor running from beneath the hopper directly through the cab to a material spreader mounted forward of the cab in view of the operator, with the hopper and conveyor being removably mounted to the truck frame, such that the material spreader vehicle can be converted to some other use. In one embodiment, the cab is provided with a central channel through the floor to accommodate the section of the conveyor passing through the cab, with the cab being provided with sealable conveyor ports aligned fore and aft through which the cab-carried conveyor section is passed. In a preferred embodiment, the conveyor runs the entire length of the bottom of the hopper trough such that material is initially removed from the rear of the hopper, thereby providing that the majority of the weight of the dispensed material is as far forward as possible.
