Abstract:
An irregular, tessellated building unit comprises x primary elements, wherein x is an integer equal to or greater than 1. The primary element is a rotational tessellation having a plural pairs of sides extending in a generally radial direction from plural vertices, respectively. In each pair, the two sides are rotationally spaced by an angle that is divided evenly into 360 degrees. Preferably, all of the sides are irregularly shaped, but one or more sides could be wholly or partially straight. Optionally, spacers are provided on the sides of each unit. A wide variety of units may be constructed having different numbers and arrangements of primary elements. As all the units are combinations of primary elements, they readily mate with each other. A surface covering comprises a multiplicity of units assembled to form a continuous surface without overlap between units and without substantial gaps between units. A structure, such as a wall or column can be formed of building units of the invention. Because of the irregular side configurations, and different sizes and shapes of individual units, the resulting surface or structure has a natural, non-repeating pattern appearance. Optionally, minor surface and edges variations are made from unit to unit to further enhance the natural appearance of the surface covering or structure.
Abstract:
An essentially quadrate paving stone having a corresponding base block (21) is provided on all four side surfaces (25, 26) with flange-like, upright spacers (22) which are spaced apart from each other at intervals corresponding approximately to the width of the spacers, making it possible for them to make an interlocking connection with adjacent shaped paving stones of the same type. Furthermore, the bottom side (24) of the paving stone features a number of transverse, gutter-like depressions resulting in the formation of ribs between these depressions. This creates an additional dentification, or anchoring, in the bed surface of the installed paving stones.
Abstract:
Multiple molded polymeric panels of various configurations are mechanically fastened together along a side surface to provide putting greens of different dimensions and shape. Each panel has a planar top surface and a bottom integral grid supporting structure. A simulated grass overlies the joined panels. Raised pads are optionally placed between the top surface of the panels and the simulated grass to provide a contoured green.
Abstract:
According to the invention, blocks (10) are formed of rigid colored material shaped as mosaic components of the road sign; the sign is then composed by arranging the blocks (10) as a mosaic, and incorporatedly inserting the blocks (10) into the upper layer (40) of the wearing course, in such a manner that the upper surface of the mosaic road sign is substantially coplanar with the road surface.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a stone structure assembly, comprising a plurality of stones, especially concrete blocks, having similar height, upper and lower sides extending on parallel planes and vertical side walls. In order to place the thirteen stone blocks pertaining to said assembly in such a way that they cannot be displaced and that similarly narrow spacing gaps are formed in-between said stones, two stones are shaped as a prism with the same surface area and eleven stones are shaped as a trapezium with differing surface areas. The stones in the stone structure assembly are configured as a single piece with a bottom section and a top section set back from the peripheral surface of the base section at least in certain areas.
Abstract:
A set of paving blocks wherein each block is a prism having side and end walls that are irregular in outline but are contained only within a respective virtual rectangular perimeter. The rectangular perimeter has a length L in a X axis and a width W in a Y axis at right angle to the X axis. At least two spaced apart parallel sections of the prism extend between the side walls, parallel to the Y axis and terminate at the virtual rectangular perimeter, such that each section has a width equal to W and the prism has at least one section bisecting the virtual rectangle parallel to the X axis and terminating at a rectangular perimeter and having a length equal to L.
Abstract:
Sets of tessellatable polygonal elements are provided from which a variety of tessellations may be formed for a variety of applications, e.g., to provide coverings and decorations for surfaces such as pedestrian walks, driveways, floors and walls, and to provide patterns for games, puzzles and coloring books. Several different embodiments, applications and tessellations are described. In one embodiment, irregular heptagonal elements are tessellated with substantially regular pentagonal elements. In another embodiment, the elements are heptagonal and square. The tessellations may have straight edges by providing one or more elements of the set of tessellatable elements with a line of symmetry and providing a further tessellatable element or elements which is that part of the element on either side of the line of symmetry. The elements may be colored to provide many variations and decorations. The tessellatable elements described herein may also tessellate with standard size elements of the same or compatible type element.
Abstract:
A paving block for covering the ground, floor and like surfaces. The paving block is generally planar with a vertical dimension. The upper and lower planar surfaces and the vertical sides define a pentagon. the pentagon has three longer sides and two shorter sides. Two of the longer sides are equal. The third longer side is at least as long as the two equal longer sides. The two equal longer sides are joined at one end at a 90.degree. internal angle. Each is joined at its opposite end to one of the shorter sides at a 90.degree. internal angle and each shorter side is then joined at a 135.degree. internal angle to the third longer side. The third longer side opposes the right angle between the two equal longer sides and is bisected by a line bisecting the 90.degree. angle between the two equal longer sides. The pentagonal paving block may be used to create homogeneous designs or in combination with a square paving block, the exterior sides of which are equal in length to the adjoining longer sides of the pentagonal block.
Abstract:
A set of paving elements for the production of paving and a method of using the same are disclosed. In a preferred form, the set comprises four cylindrical paving elements of equal height and of different diameter having a diametric proportion to each other of 1:1.4:1.8:2.2. Two or more the of paving elements from each of plurality of sets may be laid to form a paving strip with the paving elements laid next to each other in mutual contact.
