The present invention relates to a method of evaluating at least one operating parameter of a motor vehicle. A system variable relating to an operating parameter of the vehicle is measured. A look-up map (A; S; B) associated with the operating parameter is accessed. The look-up map (A; S; B) comprises of one or more sets of threshold values (R0, R1, R2, R3, R4) and a comparison is made between the measured system variable and the threshold values (R0, R1, R2, R3, R4). An economy rating (E1, E2, E3, E4, E5) is obtained from the look-up map and an indicator output based on the economy rating (E1, E2, E3, E4, E5) to provide the driver with feedback. The present invention also relates to a device for providing driver feedback.

Using this information, a ranking of a driver's performance is determined. Fleet operators can use these performance metrics as incentives, by linking driver pay with performance. Individual fleet operators can host their own website, where driver rankings in that fleet can be compared, or a website can be hosted by a third party, and multiple fleet operators participate. The third party can offset their costs for operating the website by charging participating fleet operators a fee, and/or by advertising revenue. In some embodiments, all driver performance data is displayed in an anonymous format, so that individual drivers cannot be identified unless the driver shares their user ID.

A system and method for driving training are disclosed. The system simulates three driving scenarios: lane selection, braking, and intersection clearance. The system features a control unit with vehicle position and speed inputs and signal light outputs so that the driver may react to actual external stimulus rather than imagined scenarios. The control unit increases the safety of the training exercises by removing operators or flagmen from the path of travel. It also provides more uniform training stimuli.
