    摘要: A method for communication includes establishing a data link between first and second transceivers (32,34) over an electric power line (24). A sequence of data packets is received for transmission over the data link, the sequence belonging to a session of a connectionless real-time network protocol. Responsive to a first packet in the sequence, a reliable connection channel for the session is established over the data link between the first and second transceivers. The packets in the sequence are transmitted from the first to the second transceiver over the reliable connection channel.

    摘要: Electrical supply current, sufficient to power a wireless access point, is transmitted concurrently with a network data signal across a transmission line. A power and data coupler couples the network data signal and the power signal, received through a data input and a power input, respectively, and transmits the coupled signal over the transmission line to a power and data decoupler. The power and data decoupler separates the power signal from the network data signal and supplies those signals to a power output port and a data output port, respectively, for use by a wireless access node. The power signal may be modulated at a low frequency relative to the frequency of the data signal.

A local area network can be configured from a plurality of SIC's interconnected so that all communications between two adjacent SIC's is both point-to-point and bidirectional. Communications in different areas of a SIC network are independent of one another, so that, unlike current bus topology and star topology, there is no fundamental limit on the size or extent of a SIC network. Each SIC can optionally be connected to one or more data terminals, computers, telephones, sensors, actuators, etc., to facilitate interconnectivity among such devices. Networks according to the present invention can be configured for a variety of applications, including a local telephone system, remote computer bus extender, multiplexers, PABX/PBX functionality, security systems, and local broadcasting services. The network can use dedicated wiring, as well as existing wiring as the in-house telephone or electrical wiring.

    摘要: A power line filter connected to single-phase power lines (110-230 VAC, 50-60 Hz) enables transmission of HomePNA-type home network signals between network nodes connected to the main power lines as a network medium. The filter includes fuse resistors (R1, R2) that limit the current from the main power line, a transit diode circuit that clamps the bolts to a prescribed limit, eliminating energy that may be present in main power spikes. A pair of X2-type capacitors pass the 1 MHz or higher HomePNA signals, while rejecting the 50-60 Hz main power signal. A choke-type inductor eliminates any residual high voltage signals in the 50-60 Hz range by short circuiting the power signals, while maintaining a high impedance at the 1 MHz range, enabling the HomePNA signals to be safely passed to the RJ-11 connector of a physical layer transceiver of the Home Network Node.

    摘要: A special telephone instrument has a cordless hand-piece and one or more base-stations. Each base-station is hard-wire-connected with the ordinary telephone utility system and may include a built-in cellular transceiver. The hand-piece, which is powered by a built-in rechargeable battery, is--within its maximum cordless range (e.g., 500 feet)--connected with its nearest base-station via two-way radio transmission. When not in use, the hand-piece is at times resting in a cradle at its nearest base-station, thereby getting its battery recharged. When in use, the hand-piece is removed from its cradle. When so removed, the hand-piece may--while located within cordless range--be used for receiving and/or placing phone-calls via any one of the base-stations. When moved outside of cordless range, the hand-piece automatically converts to a cellular telephone, thereby permitting--not only the continuation of an ongoing conversation--but also the receiving and/or placing of telephone calls in any location served by a cellular telephone system. Thus, a person may have a base-station in his office whereat his cordless hand-piece is cradled most of the time during office hours, thereby maintaining the built-in battery fully charged. When he leaves his office, he would bring his cordless hand-piece (and his conversation) along; which hand-piece, after being removed outside of its cordless range, will automatically convert to a cellular telephone. Then, when he gets home after work, he would place his hand-piece into the cradle of another base-station; which hand-piece would automatically convert back to a regular cordless mode after having come within the cordless range of this other base-station.
