Abstract:
A broadcast receiving system capable of receiving mobile broadcast data and a method for processing broadcast signals are disclosed. The broadcast receiving system includes N number of antenna elements, a demodulator, a transmission parameter detector, and a block decoder. The N number of antenna elements receives each of the broadcast signals. The demodulator demodulates the broadcast signal having greater signal strength among each of the received broadcast signals. The transmission parameter detector detects the transmission parameter. The block decoder symbol-decodes the mobile broadcast service data included in the received broadcast signal in block units, based upon the detected transmission parameter.
Abstract:
A method of operating a single-tuner radio includes tuning into a first frequency. A pause in a first signal associated with the first frequency is detected. Tuning is switched from the first frequency to a second frequency during the pause. Fieldstrength, multipath, adjacent channel energy, frequency offset and FM modulation for the second frequency are measured. Tuning is switched from the second frequency to the first frequency. Tuning is switched from the first frequency to the second frequency dependent upon the measuring step.
Abstract:
A method for receiving a designated program is provided. Program designation data is read from a memory. A frequency band having one or more frequencies is scanned with a program monitoring receiver. A designated program that matches at least a portion of the program designation data is located with the program monitoring receiver. When the program monitoring receiver locates the designated program, a selected program receiver for receiving the designated program is turned ON, and location of the designated program is signaled. A non-transitory computer readable medium encoded with computer executable instructions that cause a signal receiver to perform the method is also provided.
Abstract:
An apparatus such as a mobile television signal receiver includes a channel history feature. Methods for adding channels to the channel history, tuning channels from the channel history, and generally maintaining the channel history are provided. According to an exemplary embodiment, a method for adding a channel to channel history includes a step of adding a selected channel to the channel history if the channel meets a criterion. According to an exemplary embodiment, a method for tuning channels includes steps of receiving a useable program signal from a first channel, testing for presence of a useable program from a second channel without interrupting the receiving step, and if the useable program signal from the second channel is detected, tuning the second channel. According to an exemplary embodiment, a method for maintaining a channel history includes a step of maintaining a retrieved channel in the channel history if the useable program signal is present, and updating the channel history by replacing the retrieved channel with another channel if the useable program signal is not present.
Abstract:
A method of performing alternate frequency switching in a radio includes tuning the radio to a primary frequency. A candidate alternate frequency is identified. It is determined whether the candidate alternate frequency is a third order inter-modulation artifact. Tuning is switched from the primary frequency to the candidate alternate frequency only if it is determined in the determining step that the candidate alternate frequency is not a third order inter-modulation artifact.
Abstract:
The disclosed methods and systems provide for a preference engine driven personalized music service that can be implemented in consumer electronic device, such as set top box, that is capable of receiving a digital broadcast stream containing music. The personalized music service described herein does not require the consumer electronic device to have two-way communication. The necessary processing can be done on the device itself removing the need to transmit information to a remote server for processing. The method involves receiving a digital broadcast stream containing music. One or more songs are then selected from the digital broadcast stream based on a music preference for a user. The one or more selected songs can then be assembled into a custom station.
Abstract:
A digital broadcast receiving apparatus includes a receiving unit configured to receive a digital broadcast signal in which predetermined data is transmitted repeatedly. A transmission time estimating unit estimates a transmission time for transmitting data per transmission unit, by analyzing separation information contained in the digital broadcast signal where the separation information describes a time for the transmission unit of data corresponding to the predetermined data. A determining unit determines whether content of the predetermined data has been updated for each data reception starting time after the transmission time has been estimated. If the content has not been updated, the control unit inhibits reception processing by the receiving unit for a predetermined period of time based on the estimated transmission time, and if the content has been updated, the control unit permits the reception processing by the receiving unit.
Abstract:
An example radio receiver and a method is provided for controlling a radio receiver having two tuners, and receiving a hybrid signal containing digital and analog broadcast signal components. According to the example method, a selection is made in the radio receiver to operate between at least the following operating modes of the receiver: (i) a first operating mode in which both tuners are tuned to the same broadcast hybrid signal and where one of the tuners is configured to receive the digital broadcast signal and the other tuner is configured to receive the analog broadcast signal; (ii) a second operating mode in which one of the tuners receiving the digital broadcast signal is the operating tuner and the other tuner is a search and check tuner; and (iii) a third operating mode in which one of the tuners receiving the analog broadcast signal is the operating tuner and the other tuner is a search and check tuner. In this example, the hybrid signal is received and the two tuners are controlled in accordance with the selected operating mode of the receiver.
Abstract:
This invention relates a radio reception and station selection device related to geographical regions. It includes a tuning module and an AF output module, the tuning module interconnects the AF output module, the device further includes a positioning module, a display input module and a control module, each of the positioning module, the display input module and the tuning module connects the control module. This invention also provides a geographically related radio reception and station selection method. The device can display the station name, frequency, mode, and signal strength level of the local station signal source receivable on the display input module according to the Radio Regulations, and dynamically refresh with geographical changes. By using this device, listeners no longer need search for stations and store their names by themselves, it is a very convenient, time-saving device with an excellent visual operating system.
Abstract:
A broadcast receiving apparatus includes a first tuner configured to receive a broadcast wave from a specified broadcasting station, a second tuner configured to perform a frequency search for receivable broadcasting stations, a power supply unit configured to supply power to the first tuner and the second tuner, a traveling state detection unit configured to determine if a vehicle is moving or is stopped, a reception state detection unit configured to detect a reception state of a currently-received broadcast wave, and a control unit configured to control the first tuner, the second tuner, the power supply unit, the traveling state detection unit, and the reception state detection unit. The control unit causes power to be supplied to the second tuner and causes the second tuner to perform a frequency search while the vehicle is traveling, and when it is determined that the vehicle has stopped, the control unit turns the power supplied to the second tuner on and off in accordance with the reception state of the broadcast wave.
