摘要： Administration of a communication system having a plurality of addressable communication ports is accomplished automatically, by the system itself. The system is initially provisioned only with unlinked terminal translations. Establishment of hardware translations and their linking to the terminal translations is accomplished by the system automatically, in response to initial calls from system users. Each one of these initial calls informs the system of the call-originating terminals's extension, and thereby specifies to the system the requisite information for linking the originating extension and terminal translation with the call's incoming port. Station moves are also accomplished automatically, through similar calls.

摘要： A system for identifying interconnections between individual points in a communications network of the kind in which includes a plurality of multiple conductor links, individual conductors of which are selectively terminated and interconnected at corresponding individual terminals of terminal blocks; a controller broadcasts over a test network that includes the terminal blocks an inquiry that identifies a starting individual conductor to supervisors associated with the terminal blocks; the supervisor associated with the terminal block that terminates the starting conductor applies the inquiry to the individual terminal that corresponds to the starting individual conductor for transmission on the communications network, and each supervisor reports to the controller over the test network the identitites of any one or more individual terminals of its associated terminal block that detect the inquiry; whereby interconnections between the starting conductor and one or more other individual conductors in the communications network are identified.

摘要： The automatic testing apparatus is connected to a power supply system and to the connecting terminal of transmission and distribution lines of a subdistribution frame in a telephone installation. The apparatus comprises a keyboard for successively entering the numerical codes and constitution numbers of the technical subscriber-file to be checked, connectors to be joined to the terminals of the subdistribution frame, a test unit comprising a programmed microprocessor for storing the entered data and initiating transmission of a coded signal to the transmission and distribution cables of the telephone pairs to be tested. This signal is tested in order to check whether the designated constitution is correct or not in the corresponding pairs of the transmission and distribution cable terminals of the subdistribution frame, the results of the test being then displayed on a printer.

摘要： Improved telephone cable conductor pair identifier apparatus incorporates an "Expander" which is interposed at an appropriate location in the amplifier and filtering circuitry between the pick up probe and the audio signal emitter, or speaker. The "Expander" acts to accentuate the differences in the amplitudes of signals present, thereby significantly enhancing the effective sensitivity of a human operator to signal amplitude differences, with a resulting remarkable improvement in the ability of the human operator to readily and accurately locate and select a telephone cable conductor being sought. Switch means may be provided to permit the "Expander" to be bypassed at the will of the human operator, since it may be desirable to use the "Expander" only in the more difficult cases of conductor pair identification.

摘要： A testing and recording system is disclosed for determining and recording the cable pair-line equipment assignments in a telephone central office. Using a multipair shoe on the main frame appearances of the cable pair, an off-hook condition is simulated successively on each of a plurality of idle cable pairs. At the same time, the dial tone markers are monitored to determine which line equipment responds to the off-hook condition. If the off-hook test condition is of very brief duration and takes place during times of low central office traffic, there is a high probability that only one off-hook condition will occur during the test interval. If only one dial tone marker response occurs during this brief interval, the cable pair identification and line equipment identification are recorded to create a record of this assignment. Alternatively, a tone associated with each dial tone marker is detected to ascertain which marker responded to the simulated off-hook condition.

摘要： A telephone test and assignment bureau is provided with a telephone instrument interconnected with an automatic wire pair identification field unit. A telephone number to be verified is dialed on the instrument and a start button is illuminated when the connection is completed by the switching equipment. Pressing this button initiates the verification procedure, and the wire pair identification field unit sends an interrogate signal over the telephone line to the central office. A wire pair identification control unit is connected via shoes at the main distributing frame to the cable having the wire pair assigned to the telephone number dialed. When the interrogate signal is received by the wire pair identification control unit it sends an identifying code back over the same telephone line to identify which wire pair on the main distribution frame was selected by the switching equipment in response to the telephone number dialed. This identifying code is received by the wire pair identification field unit in the test and assignment bureau, and the number of the pair is displayed. The displayed number can then be checked against the telephone number assignment records.
