摘要： An information processing apparatus capable of reliably switching a session. An IP fax as an information processing apparatus is connected to another IP fax. The IP fax establishes an audio session with the other IP fax. After establishing the audio session, the IP fax receives capability information indicating capabilities of the other IP fax therefrom. After receiving the capability information, the IP fax requests the other IP fax to switch the audio session to a T.38 session. Then, the IP fax switches the audio session to the T.38 session.

The communication apparatus acquires capability information indicating a communication capability of the device, and based on acquired capability information, determines a communication mode to be used when the network interface device communicates with the device under a condition that the communication apparatus has shifted to the power saving mode, and when the communication apparatus shifts from the normal power consumption mode to the power saving mode, sets the determined communication mode as a communication mode to be used when the network interface device communicates with the external device.

A transmitting-side digital multifunction machine inputs the port address of a receiving-side digital multifunction machine according to a user operation, and designates encrypted communication for transmitting IFP packets of image information, via an IP network, after encrypting the IFP packets, or non-encrypt communication for transmitting IFP packets of image information, via the IP network, without encrypting the IFP packets. The receiving-side digital multifunction machine determines whether the input port address is for an encrypted communication port or a non-encrypt communication port, and sends a response containing an associated port number to the transmitting-side digital multifunction machine. The transmitting-side digital facsimile apparatus establishes connection to the port with the port number, and performs the designated communication.

The method includes: a) the transmitting gateway and the receiving gateway determining the types of all received V.21 frames; b) when the receiving gateway or the transmitting gateway receives a non-standard frame NSF, modifying the non-standard frame NSF, so that the corresponding receiving facsimile machine or transmitting facsimile machine is unable to receive a correct NSF frame; c) the receiving gateway encapsulating the modified NSF frame data, or the transmitting gateway modulating the modified NSF frame data and transmitting the modulated frame data. The method modifies the rate negotiation performed with proprietary frames as a negotiation performed with standard frames.

The invention also describes a sharing device adapted to implement the method, in particular a digital camera.
