摘要: A method and apparatus for obtaining a desired nip pressure distribution profile in the cross direction of a paper web. The paper web passes through a nip, the latter defined by at least one elastomer covered roll, the covered roll having polarizable particles or magnetic particles embedded therein. A plurality of spaced plates or spaced coils each generate a local field (respectively electric or magnetic) which acts upon individual spaced zones or regions along the covered roll. The field may thus be an electric field or a magnetic filed. The effect of the field is to change the effective modulus of the elastomer by acting on the particles. In turn, this action varies the nip pressure pulse as to exert a desired pressure at each of a plurality of spaced zones or regions on the paper web, to thus create or process a more uniform product in the nip. The method and apparatus can be used, for example, to improve web moisture profiles in the press section of paper machines.

摘要: An improvement to an electro-magnetically actuated piston has a first magnetic core and a second magnetic core. There is an electro-magnet coil for magnetically coupling the first and the second magnetic cores. The coil moves the first and second magnetic cores relatively, one to another. In the improvement itself the first and the second magnetic cores each comprise non-conductive core material or an array of a multiplicity of lamination plates. The non-conductive core material or each of the lamination plates are configured to receive a portion of the electro-magnet coil. The nonconductive core material or array of lamination plates encloses the coil and contains the magnetic field produced by the coil when the coil is energized. When the non-conductive core material or lamination plates of the first and second magnetic cores are in juxtaposition, the result is to generally isolate any magnetic materials adjacent the lamination plates from the magnetic flux produced when the coil is energized.

摘要: A mold clamping device in an injection molding machine comprising a stationary electromagnetic plate and a movable electromagnetic plate provided at the side of the stationary electromagnetic plate away from the movable platen so as to be capable of being moved toward and away from the stationary electromagnetic plate. Both electromagnetic plates are each provided with an electromagnetic coil for generating a magnetic attracting force. The device further comprises a movable platen driving mechanism which is composed of a combination of a feed screw shaft and a nut member and is connected to the movable platen. An operation for closing the molds is performed by the driving mechanism. Subsequently, a mold clamping operation of both molds is performed by a magnetic attracting force from the electromagnetic coil.

摘要: Apparatus and a method for processing work pieces, such as semiconductor lead frames, wherein the apparatus includes a power device such as a solenoid assembly, for driving an upper die into processing relationship to a work piece on a lower die with the stroke of the power device being relatively short, such as in the range of 0 to 0.375 inch. This is achieved by providing a second power device, such as a piston and cylinder assembly, in which the piston rod of the assembly raises the upper die high enough to allow clearance between the dies for the passage of the work piece between the dies, then the second power device is allowed to lower relatively slowly until the upper die is substantially in proximity to the work piece. When this occurs, the first power device is ready to be actuated and, when so actuated, moves a relatively short distance during the power stroke to process the work piece between the dies with a minimum of noise because of the greatly reduced distance of travel of the power device during the power stroke. In this way, the apparatus is more effectively used in the presence of one or more workmen so that there will be no injury to their hearing because of the greatly reduced noise levels associated with the improved die apparatus of the present invention.

摘要: A calender device for the surface treatment of material moved between peripherally coacting roller and counter roller surfaces exerting a pressure onto one another during relative rotation under the action of magnetic forces. The device comprises at least two rollers of magnetizable material spaced apart and coacting peripherally with at least two other counter rollers usually having non-magnetic peripheries, and with a magnet body interposed generally between the first-mentioned rollers so as to exert a magnetic attractive force thereon such that regardless of the form and number of rollers opposite components of the magnetic attractive force between the magnet body and rollers of magnetizable material lie in intersecting planes connecting the respective axes of the counter rollers and the axis of the roller of magnetizable material which they adjoin. The counter rollers are disposed parallel to and are equally spaced at opposite sides of the magnet body and at least one of the rollers of magnetizable material, and in another embodiment from both of said rollers. Further forms embody respectively three and four of the rollers of magnetizable material arranged peripherially in a spaced apart manner alternately engaging with interposed counter rollers and having a centrally disposed non-rotatable magnet body with a plurality of opposite polarity pole faces corresponding in number to and disposed adjacent the first-mentioned rollers, and the rollers therearound form a static closed system in which the rollers and magnet longitudinal bodies are not subjected to longitudinal deflection in most forms, and in others only to minimal deflection during operation. Still further more preferred forms embody circumferentially disposed coacting rollers and counter rollers disposed concentrically around a central roller with which only the counter rollers also peripherally coact during relative rotation of the rollers, and with said counter rollers usually being mounted at a uniform diameter form the axis of the center roller which diameter is less than that of the other rollers. The magnet body in one of these latter forms includes having the form of separate magnet bars interposed radially between the center roller and the rollers of magnetizable material and extending longitudinally over the length of the rollers. Another form has the magnet bodies in the form of a plurality of opposite polarity pole faces integrally disposed in a circumferentially spaced manner around the periphery of the central rotatable roller to exert the aforestated magnetic attractive forces sequentially on the encircled rollers thereabout during operation.

The working and backing rollers are of magnetic material and the working roller is held against the backing rollers using a magnet. Such a roller arrangement is satisfactory when the surface area of the dice is only 350 microns by 350 microns.
