A device for safe removal of and disposal of membrane seals from plastic bottles containing dangerous liquids comprising a protective cap adopted to fit over the neck of the bottle to be opened, a combined membrane piercing and extracting member mounted within the cap in recessed position, and an annular cutting member having a serrated cutting edge mounted within the cap in recessed position surrounding the combined membrane piercing and extracting member.
Abstract:
A waste cylinder rupture vessel for release and recontainerization of toxic contents of compressed gas cylinders is defined by an enclosed chamber which accommodates a plurality of bearing surfaces for supporting and positioning a target cylinder thereon. A puncture spike disposed within the chamber is adapted to puncture the target cylinder at its mid-section, thereby releasing its contents. Connections are provided communicating with the enclosed chamber for evacuating and recontainerizing the contents released by a punctured cylinder without release of the contents into the environment. All of the cylinder processing operations may be provided remotely.
Abstract:
A plastic cap assembly with a base cap and a cap that is formed in one piece and may be installed on the neck of the container that is sealed with a foil or a membrane. A projection in the flat wall of the base cap has on its underside a penetrator with which the foil can be penetrated. The contents of the container can then flow through the hole in the foil from the penetrator to the pour opening. The cap assembly is simple to operate and to produce; it supports the foil and in addition can be safety sealed. It is particularly well-suited for containers used for readily oxidizable foodstuffs such as ketchup, for example.
Abstract:
A blasting device for pulverizing material being fed through a hopper connected to a supply of pressurized gas. The blasting device comprises a housing member including an intake opening connected to the supply, an output opening connected to the inside of the hopper and a top opening. A tubular member connected to the output opening on one end are disposed within the housing member so that two compartments are defined. A cap member cooperatively and hermetically sealing the top opening thereby defining a third compartment. A diaphragm/valve member sandwiched between the peripheral underside of the cap member and the top opening of the housing, including a spring biased assembly urging the valve member downwardly in contact with the other end of the tubular member thereby separating the two compartments. Conduit means connecting the supply to the third compartment. Valve means for opening and closing the third compartment. A plurality of blasting devices may be connected to a common supply of pressurized air through a manifold.
Abstract:
An inflatable restraint system includes an airbag which is expanded by an inflator assembly to restrain movement of an occupant of a vehicle in the event of a collision. The inflator assembly includes a plurality of grains or bodies of gas generating material which are disposed in a longitudinally extending array and are enclosed by a filter assembly and a housing. To promote a rapid and uniform combustion of the grains to quickly generate a large volume of gas, passages extend through the grains between spaces at opposite ends of the grains. Uniform combustion of the grains is promoted by having the passages located on concentric circles with the longitudinal axes of the passages spaced apart by equal distances along the circles. The axes of the passages on one concentric circle are circumferentially spaced from the axes of the passages on another concentric circle. The grains positioned with the passages in axial alignment and are cushioned by resilient retainer tubes which engage the outside of the grains. When the airbag has become inflated, a pressure control valve system is opened to exhaust excess gas generated by the combustion of the grains.
