This discharge lamp electrode comprises a cylindrical tungsten rod having fitted and welded to its upper end a coil of spiralwound wire of the same metal and two small disks, i.e. a thorium emitting disk and a titanium-emitting disk disposed above the end of the cylindrical tungsten rod; the thorium emitting disks consists of tungsten powder sintered under a relatively high pressure to constitute a skeleton, and the titanium emitting disk consists of a tungsten skeleton in which titanium is incorporated; other coils of spiral-wound tungsten wire are disposed around said disks and locked in position by weld spots.

An improved cathode-getter member for utilization in a sputterion type pump for providing effective pumping of a wide range of gases including hydrogen. The cathode-getter member consists of one or more of the refractory metals capable of forming nongaseous hydrides such as zirconium, thorium, titanium, tantalum, niobium and vanadium with an additional constituent consisting of one or more of the following elements, aluminum, silicon and beryllium.
Abstract:
A cathode structure, particularly a MK cathode, employs a wick mounted in a coupling member adjacent a supply of emission substance, preferably barium. The wick may be formed of a number of very thin tungsten wires which are snaked or braided together and covered with a cylindrical coating of, for example, molybdenum. The wick and the emission supply substance are mounted in a housing adjacent a heater element for indirect heating. A matrix of cathodes is provided by fixing coupling members having wicks mounted therein in a spaced apart manner in an insulating plate. In such a matrix heater are disposed and secured in place between adjacent cathodes. The heaters may be jointly operated, but advantageously with different applied voltages.
Abstract:
A tungsten dispenser cathode for a magnetron is described. The cathode is provided with end shields in the form of solid graphite rings to improve suppression of undesirable electron emission.
