Abstract: An anaerobic aluminum-water electrochemical cell is provided. The electrochemical cell includes: a plurality of electrode stacks, each electrode stack comprising an aluminum or aluminum alloy anode, and at least one cathode configured to be electrically coupled to the anode and having a surface characterized by an electrochemical roughness factor of at least 5 and a mean pore diameter of at least 50 μm; one or more physical separators between each electrode stack adjacent to the cathode; a housing configured to hold the electrode stacks, an electrolyte, and the physical separators; and a water injection port, in the housing, configured to introduce water into the housing.

Abstract: A rechargeable battery assembly for a vehicle has a housing and at least one metal-air rechargeable battery arranged in the housing. A filter device is arranged in the housing and conditions the inlet air of the at least one metal-air rechargeable battery such that the inlet air exhibits a predetermined air humidity. A flow deflecting device is provided that deflects the inlet air in the housing such that the filter device can be regenerated by waste heat of the at least one metal-air rechargeable battery.

Abstract: A catalyst is provided for the two electron reduction of oxygen. The catalyst can be reversible or near-reversible. The catalyst comprises a gold and a cobalt coordination complex, i.e., N,N′-bis(salicylidene)ethylene-diaminocobalt (II) (cobalt salen) or a derivative thereof. The cobalt coordination complex can be polymerized to form a film, for example, via electropolymerization, to cover a gold surface. Also provided are metal-air batteries, fuel cells, and air electrodes that comprise the catalyst, as well as methods of using the catalyst, for example, to reduce oxygen and/or produce hydrogen peroxide.

Abstract: A lithium air battery is provided. The lithium air battery prevents the depletion of electrolyte and includes a separation membrane which contacts an electrolyte stored in an electrolyte tank through a gasket which contacts an outer surface of a unit cell. Therefore, when the electrolyte of the lithium air battery is volatilized, the electrolyte is supplied to the inside of the lithium air battery from the electrolyte tank through the separation membrane.

The battery contains a ceramic separator forming an anode chamber, a molten lithium anode contained in the anode chamber, an air cathode, and a non-aqueous electrolyte. The cathode has a temperature gradient comprising a low temperature region and a high temperature region, and the temperature gradient provides a flow system for reaction product produced by the battery.
