    Abstract: Provided is a method for producing a low specific gravity molded foam using a propylene-based polymer. The method includes: providing a foamable composition including a mixture of a propylene-based polymer and thermally expandable microspheres; introducing the foamable composition into a mold for producing a molded foam; raising the temperature of the foamable composition to at least the expansion start temperature (Tstart) of the thermally expandable microspheres to expand the foamable composition in the mold; forming a molded foam in a state in which the foamable composition is expanded to fill the mold; and releasing the molded foam from the mold.

    Abstract: Disclosed, among other things, are ways to manufacture reduced density thermoplastics using rapid solid-state foaming and machines useful for the saturation of plastic. In one embodiment, a foaming process may involve saturating a semi-crystalline polymer such as Polylactic Acid (PLA) with high levels of gas, and then heating, which may produce a reduced density plastic having high levels of crystallinity. In another embodiment, a foaming process may produce layered structures in reduced density plastics with or without integral skins. In another embodiment, a foaming process may produce deep draw structures in reduced density plastics with or without integral skins. In yet another embodiment, a foaming process may utilize additives, blends, or fillers, for example. In yet another embodiment, a foaming process may involve saturating a semi-crystalline polymer such as Polylactic Acid (PLA) with high levels of gas, and then heating, which may produce a reduced density plastic having high levels of crystallinity.

    Abstract: A method of making a plastic tank suitable for containing water comprises forming a tank base which is partially or fully lined with a plastic layer that is different in character or color from the plastic material of the substrate of the tank base. The tank is alternatively formed by injection molding substrate material around the core of a mold which is partially or fully covered by the liner material, and by injecting liner material into the mold to bond it to the tank base substrate in conjunction with retracting part or all of the core, to provide space in the mold for the liner material.

    Abstract: A three-dimensional image data reviewing device includes a processor that obtains first distension data for causing a thermally distensible layer of a thermally distensible sheet to distend from one of a front surface and a rear surface of the thermally distensible sheet and that obtains second distension data for causing the thermally distensible layer to distend from another of the front surface and the rear surface, a display unit connected to the processor, wherein the processor causes the display unit to display, on a preview screen, an appearance of the thermally distensible sheet after the thermally distensible layer is caused to distend in accordance with the first distension data and the second distension data, the processor also causing the display unit to identifiably display, in a prescribed manner, an abnormal region of the thermally distensible layer where the thermally distensible layer is predicted to distend abnormally.
