    摘要: A termination closure (20) for buried or underground service cable splice locations includes molded stepped end blocks (40--40) and a cover (100) which comprises a sheet adapted to be wrapped about service cables (28--28) having conductors (26--26) which are spliced to conductors (24--24) of a distribution cable (22) and secured by clamps. The closure also includes a pivotally mounted organizer (80) which is perforated to allow an encapsulant to be flowed therethrough into engagement with an enclosing bladder (90). The organizer effectively isolates splice connections from the distribution cable core (23). The bladder which is wrapped about the organizer is adapted to receive encapsulant from a tube which extends through one of the end blocks to allow it to be flowed into the interstices among the spliced conductors and distribution cable core. Air in the closure is pushed from one end of the closure and evacuated through a relief valve (59) in the other end block. The relief valve is arranged so that an indicator thereof is not moved outwardly to provide a visual indication until the closure has been filled properly.

    摘要: An electrical power feedthrough connection for supporting and sealing a well electrical cable. A sealing insulator which is longitudinally split includes one or more cavities. An elongated connector is positioned in each cavity connecting the ends of two lines of the electrical cable with potting compound positioned in the cavity for sealing about the connector. A sealing grommet at each end of the insulator aligns the lines of the electrical cable with the cavities of the insulator. A cable gripping retainer is positioned adjacent each grommet remote from the insulator. A housing surrounds the insulator, grommet and retainers and includes first and second telescoping parts with threaded means for telescoping the first and second parts together. Coacting wedges are positioned between each of the housing parts and one of the retainers for causing the retainers to move inwardly and grip the cable when the first and second housing parts are telescoped together and coacting shoulders are provided between each of the housing parts and opposite ends of the insulator for compressing the insulator and sealing it about the connectors.

    摘要: A splice between ends of a pair of telecommunications cables is encapsulated in a thermoset foam. To encapsulate the splice it is positioned within a mold with the cables extending through apertures in the mold. At the apertures the cables are wrapped with an open cell foam material to block the cavity ends. A foam base material is then mixed with an activating agent which includes both a heat activated blowing agent and a material which reacts exothermically with the foam base material. The mixture is deposited within the mold and the mold closed. The mixture then foams to fill the mold and rapidly cures. The resulting joint is light, durable, waterproof and re-enterable.

    摘要: In forming an air tight dam at a connecting zone of two communication cables or an opened zone of a cable sheath, slit spring sleeves capable of compressing the sheath and the insulated conductor body are inserted in an outer sleeve which covers the connecting zone or the opened zone of the sheath. The slit spring sleeves are first inserted into the outer sleeve while maintained in the enlarged state. A room-temperature setting resin exhibiting rubber-like elasticity after setting is poured to fill the slit spring sleeves and to set therein. Then, the means for enlarging the slit spring sleeves is released to compress the interior of the dam.

    摘要: Articles, and particular telephone splices, are protectively encased in a material consisting of a low viscosity oil gelled by a block copolymer such as styrene-iosprene-styrene. Addition of polyethylene to the blend reduces the yield shear stress in the gelled compound and also advantageously supplies a desirable high temperature property of nonslump. Component ranges are described. Stratifying the compound within the closure so that the portion contacting splices is soft and plastic while the remainder is stiff and hard, meets a stringent encasement requirement while minimizing oil separation at high operating temperatures.
