Abstract:
Novel proteins IR1B1 and IR1B4 have been isolated which bind to the type I IFN receptor IFNAR1 and function in the cellular response to IFNs. DNA encoding such proteins in either the sense or anti-sense orientation can be administered to either enhance or inhibit the cellular response to IFNs. Antibodies to the proteins can be used for isolation of the new protein or for immunodetection thereof.
Abstract:
A solar energy system comprises a solar absorber in the form of a solar boiler tank with a lower working liquid region having a liquid inlet and filled with a working liquid capable of boiling under a predetermined pressure, and an upper vapor accumulation region having a vapor outlet for withdrawing from the tank a vapor created in the tank. The system further comprises vapor utilization means associated with the vapor outlet. The solar boiler tank has at least one transparent window to receive and pass towards the working liquid highly concentrated solar radiation. The system also comprises means for controlling the pressure of vapor in the vapor accumulation region to make the working liquid boil at the predetermined pressure.
Abstract:
There is proposed a methodology for specifying the behavior of reactive systems, which is based on nullPlaying innull the system's possible scenarios. The use of this methodology is shown by building a practical nullPlay In Enginenull tool based on the methodology. Users will be able to connect their Mock-Up GUI to the tool by nullplayingnull their GUI and specifying the required system reactions in a simple and intuitive manner. As this is being done, the system will automatically generate behavior specifications in the language of Live Sequence Charts (LSCs), or any other suitable requirement language, such as various temporal logics or timing diagrams. On the basis of the system behavior specification, the user can play out scenarios through a play out engine.
Abstract:
Antibodies to Tumor Necrosis Factor receptors (TNF-Rs) which inhibit the cytocidal effect of TNF but not its binding to the TNF-Rs, and ligands interacting with other receptors of the TNF/NGF family, are provided together with methods of producing them. The antibodies preferably bind to the fourth cysteine rich domain of the p75 TNF receptor or to the region between said fourth cysteine rich domain and the cell membrane.
Abstract:
Provided is a plant exudate, methods for obtaining a plant exudate by inducing the plant to secrete an exudate and systems for the collection of a plant exudate which include: one or more plant container including at least two discrete compartments each configured to accommodate a split root of a plant, the compartments being a root stimulating compartment including one or more input being in fluid communication with at least a source of a plant root stimulant, and a root exudate harvesting compartment, and a root exudate collection compartment in fluid communication with the root exudate harvesting compartment.
Abstract:
Some embodiments relate to a computer system for determining a structural image of a sample. The computer system is configured to receive and process raw measured data produced by a scanning microscope and being indicative of at least one scan dataset (IM)N acquired in a scan session and corresponding to a sequence of N measurements on a sample located in proximity to a focal plane of the scanning microscope. Each measurement includes data provided by M detection channels associated with M-segment detector (M≥3). The computer system includes a data analyzer capable of processing at least one scan dataset to compensate image shifts induced by off-axis detection channels for sample features at defocus plane to thereby obtain data indicative of parallax corrected scan image of the sample which enables separation between phase and depth information and extraction of a depth contrast image of the sample from the single scan dataset.
Abstract:
Methods of controlling biological processes by altering the electric field gradient in a test chamber are disclosed. A portion of a surface of the test chamber is attached to at least one immobilized component of the biological process. Microfluidic devices capable of same are also disclosed.
Abstract:
