Abstract: An encoder that encodes a current block in a picture includes circuitry and memory. Using the memory, the circuitry: determines whether to use intra prediction for the current block; and when determining to use intra prediction, (i) performs a first transform on a residual signal of the current block using a first transform basis to generate first transform coefficients; and (ii-1) performs a second transform on the first transform coefficients using a second transform basis to generate second transform coefficients and quantizes the second transform coefficients, when an intra prediction mode of the current block is a predetermined mode or when the first transform basis is same as a predetermined transform basis; and (ii-2) quantizes the first transform coefficients without performing the second transform when the intra prediction mode is different from the predetermined mode and the first transform basis is different from the predetermined transform basis.

Abstract: An encoder partitions into blocks using a set of block partition modes. The set of block partition modes includes a first partition mode for partitioning a first block, and a second block partition mode for partitioning a second block which is one of blocks obtained after the first block is partitioned. When the number of partitions of the first block partition mode is three, the second block is a center block among the blocks obtained after partitioning the first block, and the partition direction of the second block partition mode is same as the partition direction of the first block partition mode, the second block partition mode indicates that the number of partitions is only three. A parameter for identifying the second block partition mode includes a first flag indicating a horizontal or vertical partition direction, and does not include a second flag indicating the number of partitions.

The management region stores first playback control information specifying playing of a video stream of the high-luminance range and a subtitle stream of the high-luminance range in combination. The extended region stores second playback control information specifying playing of a video stream of the standard-luminance range and a subtitle stream of the standard-luminance range in combination.

Abstract: A play back device includes a readout unit and a playback unit. The readout unit reads out an encoded main video stream and an encoded sub-video stream that are recorded in a recording medium. The sub-video stream is a sub-video that is to be superimposed on the main video and displayed. The playback unit plays the main video stream and the sub-video stream that have been read out. The sub-video stream includes multiple sets, each set including a first sub-video stream for a first luminance dynamic range and a second sub-video stream for a second luminance dynamic range, which is wider than the first luminance dynamic range. In the same set in the multiple sets, a registration order of the first sub-video stream in the first database and a registration order of the second sub-video stream in the second database are the same.
