Abstract:
A completely automatic system for monitoring auto racers or the like. Each vehicle carries a transponder which senses its own passage of a position event such as crossing the start-finish line, entering or leaving the pit area, etc., and transmits a signal indicating same to a track side receiver adjacent that event position on a time shared basis with the transponders of all other vehicles. A master transmitter sends a time divisible sync signal to all of the vehicle transponders and each transponder is adapted to transmit a position event signal during only a predetermined time division of the sync signal. Thr track side receivers feed into a central control unit which is also synchronized with the master transmitter and logs the appearance of its positional event of each vehicle in real time. A clock and a computer are provided so that racing rank, lap speeds, etc., may be determined from the log data. A unique position event occurrence sensing system is also disclosed in which an inductance carried by the vehicle passes through a fluctuating magnetic field, the polarity orientation of which defines the position of the particular event.
Abstract:
Apparatus for severing recording medium in a document reproduction system, such as facsimile, wherein the transmitter produces an enabling signal indicating that a document has been inserted for reproduction and the detection of the signal at the receiver enables a timer apparatus so that a medium cutting device will cut the recording medium at the proper place before and after the reproduced document to remove waste therefrom. In one embodiment a timer is provided in the transmitter to measure the time for the copy document to move from the copy inlet to the copy scanner and a separate timer is included in the receiver to measure the time for the recording medium to travel from the marking means to the paper cutter. In a second embodiment a timer is provided in the receiver which by itself measures the time required for the copy document at the transmitter to travel from the inlet to the scanner and the time required for the recording medium to go from the marking means to the cutter.
Abstract:
The following specification describes a vehicle flasher utilizing a coil for driving a reciprocating spring-biased mass through a gear train to control the on-off time of a lamp. A cam moved with the mass is arranged to operate contacts for lighting the lamp after the mass is accelerated in one direction and an arm also moved with the mass is arranged to assist in contact separation after the mass is accelerated in the return direction. Additionally, the specification describes systems for use with the described flasher to signal lamp failure.

AN AXIALLY MOVABLE BORING BAR CARRIES A PLURALITY OF RADIALLY DIRECTED TOOLS AT LONGITUDINALLY SPACED POSITION WITH ONE OF THE TOOLS BEING ADJUSTABLY POSITIONED ABOUT A PIVOT AXIS PERPENDICULAR TO SHAFT AXIS TO REDUCE THE OVERALL TRAVEL OF THE BORING BAR.
Abstract:
The use of paired, concentric, axially spaced and nested coaxial cup-shaped members downstream of an apertured plate carrying a porous conical fuel wick to promote recirculation of the forced combustion air within the combustion chamber. Additionally, a spiral-type igniter is used in a position recessed from the combustion chamber and to which a short wicking material is extended for initiating combustion.

The following specification describes a support body having a rectangular cross section for a torsion-bar chair control utilized in office type chairs with the post-support member located behind the torsion bar and engaged with the lower and upper support body walls.
Abstract:
Control System for a data display system such as a scoreboard, message board or the like wherein display indicators having location addresses, on the board, are addressed and actuated through a logic system which first receives and stores address data pertaining to a particular indicator, receives display character data, and automatically reads out the address data to the board for enabling the desired indicator followed by the display character data to actuate it to display the desired character. A buffer memory is provided for controlling the input to the logic system from a variety of input devices including console keyboard, punch tape typewriter and reader as well as magnetic memory storage devices. Circuits are provided in conjunction with the buffer for updating particular message data existing in the buffer as required by changes in the game or other information.
Abstract:
The following specification describes an arrangement for applying a uniform oil coating of selected thickness to a steel web moving at variable speed past an absorbent roll which coats the web with oil. The roll travels the same distance as the web and drives a counter for counting a predetermined number of web lengths irrespective of web speed. A selected quantity of oil is sprayed on the roll under control of a timer after a predetermined number of web lengths are counted to ensure that the quantity of oil sprayed corresponds to a predetermined web length for providing a uniform oil coat of selected thickness irrespective of web speed.

A TIMING BELT ASSEMBLY COMPRISED OF AN ENDLESS FLEXIBLE BELT OF ELASTOMERIC MATERIAL ADAPTED TO BE TRAINED ABOUT DRIVE AND IDLER PULLEY ASSEMBLIES FOR SUPPORTING OPTICAL SCANNER
UNITS AND MOVING THE SAME IN A CONTINUOUS CLOSED PATH UPON ROTATION OF THE DRIVE PULLEY ASSEMBLY.
Abstract:
A timing belt assembly trained about drive and idler pulley assemblies for supporting optical scanner units and moving the same in a continuous closed path upon rotation of the drive pulley assembly. The effective circumference of the drive pulley assembly is slightly greater than one-third the effective circumference of the timing belt assembly; the effective circumference of the idler pulley assembly is slightly less than one-third the effective circumference of the timing belt assembly; biasing means impose a lateral force on the timing belt assembly for maintaining the latter under substantially constant tension; and the cylindrical face means of the idler pulley assembly, about which the timing belt assembly, comprised of endless flexible tape means, is trained, has an axial extent at least equal to the width of the tape means.
