Abstract:
In DVD Stream Recording Stream Object Units are real-time recorded, wherein such fixed-length Stream Object Units serve as a container for Application Packets that have a variable length and carry payload data and an Application Time Stamp, this timestamp enabling proper real-time playback. In case the temporal distance between two succeeding application packets is too big, stuffing data must be inserted into the corresponding Stream Object Units. The real-time stuffing control is performed such that overflow of the input buffer is avoided in case of a specific kind of input signals.
Abstract:
A method for creating a multiplexed data stream composed of encrypted multimedia data, decryption information, and stream key data. The process of creating the multiplexed data stream uses a multiplexing pattern that is determined in view of a stream key data and an instrument identification number preferably corresponding to the receiver of such multiplexed data stream. Stream key data that is transmitted as part of the multiplexed data stream is placed in predetermined locations, for the benefit of a decoder that extracts such stream key data from the predetermined locations. The multiplexed data stream is then processed for transport. A method and apparatus for demultiplexing the multiplexed data stream is also disclosed.
Abstract:
Video recording according to the DVD-VR Specification allows to record only one sub-picture stream. Therefore, a new technique is provided in order to be able to record at least two different sub-title streams in such a way that the sub-pictures of the different streams may be displayed optionally. A first sub-picture stream is directly copied to the DVD-VR disc, whereas a second or third sub-picture stream is transcoded to Teletext format so that the data can be included into the video stream to be recorded on the DVD-VR disc. Thus, several sub-titles are available during replaying a DVD-VR disc.
Abstract:
The coding or decoding of video data with the associated audio and/or other data can be performed, for example, on the basis of the standards ISO/IEC 11172 (MPEG1) or ISO/IEC 13818 (MPEG2). Such coding and decoding can include the conversion of a primary bit stream coded on the basis of such standards into a secondary bit stream with a different data rate. Since the information content of the motion vectors from the primary bit stream retain their validity in the secondary bit stream, it is not necessary to recalculate motion vectors for transcoding. Instead, encoding of the secondary bit stream is performed with the aid of the motion vectors from the primary bit stream which are reused. In such a case, the encoding of the secondary bit stream is carried out in a restricted prediction mode, i.e. only those prediction modes which are described by respective block type or the motion information of the primary bit stream are allowed in the secondary bit stream.
Abstract:
A method for the remote control of at least one electronic device (10 to 25) is proposed in which the control data are transmitted from a remote control device (27) to the electronic device (10 to 25). In the method, information data at least regarding the remote control functions of the electronic device (10 to 25) to be controlled are transmitted to the remote control device (27). These information data are stored in the remote control device (27) and called on during a control operation in order to select and transmit the control data necessary for the respective control operation. At least the device identification number (GID) and the device type are transmitted to the remote control automatically, for example after the connection of the electronic device to the power supply system.Furthermore, an apparatus for the remote control of an electronic device is proposed, as well as an electronic device.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a hand-held device comprising connection means for supporting an internet data transmission link between the hand-held device and the internet; browser means for fetching internet data from the internet; input means for receiving a user input; and generating means for generating a command script in response to said user input, where said command script is related to said searched internet data; where said command script, when the hand-held device is connected to a multimedia home device, can be processed to initiate a transmission of at least part of said searched internet data and/or other internet data to said multimedia home device.
Abstract:
Several data streams contain video, audio and/or other data. Some of the data streams are pre-recorded in a multiplex on a storage medium while other data streams are located out of the data stream multiplex on the storage medium. The data streams are synchronized using a navigation file (List_of_PlayItems), which comprises descriptors (PlayItems, SubPlayItems) pointing to parts of said data streams, wherein said descriptors define the arrangement in time for said data streams by means of data sub stream paths.
Abstract:
MPEG video uses motion compensated prediction for coding pictures. A GOP includes at least one intra-coded picture to start decoding with and a number of inter-coded pictures and normally also includes bi-directionally predicted pictures. However, the GOP structure is not constructed for playing GOPs in backward direction in a trickplay mode across GOP boarders. The invention facilitates, for different GOP structures, a smooth backward video mode thereby reducing the required number of frame buffers and achieving near real-time speed presentation. In some embodiments some I and/or P pictures are decoded more than once. The invention also allows backwards decoding of MPEG-4-AVC GOPs including B-stored pictures.
Abstract:
Subtitling can be based on either pixel data or on character data. Character data allow very efficient encoding, but from character strings alone, subtitling can not be converted into a graphical representation to be overlaid over video. The intended character set, font and e.g. font size, must either be coded explicitly within the subtitling bitstream or an implicit assumption must be made about them. In pixel-based subtitling, subtitling frames are conveyed directly in the form of graphical representations by describing them as (typically rectangular) regions of pixel values on the AV screen, at the cost of considerably increased bandwidth for the subtitling data. According to the invention, a font memory is used that allows an efficient realization of pixel-based subtitle lettering, because the glyphs need only be transmitted once and thereafter are referenced by relatively compact character references during the AV event. Thereby the invention combines the advantages of pure pixel-based and pure-character-based subtitling schemes, while mostly avoiding their respective shortcomings.
