Abstract: According to various embodiments, a gesture recognition device may be provided. The gesture recognition device may include: a plurality of emitters, each emitter configured to emit a signal; at least one receiver configured to receive signals emitted by the plurality of emitters; a controller configured to control the plurality of emitters to subsequently emit signals in a plurality of patterns of a first subset of the plurality of emitters emitting a signal and a second subset of the plurality of emitters not emitting a signal; and a gesture recognition circuit configured to determine a gesture of a user of the input device based on the signals received by the at least one receiver.

Abstract: An edible and 3D printable ink composition is disclosed herein, which includes a chocolate-based material including a chocolate syrup, a chocolate paste, or a combination thereof, and cocoa powder present in an amount ranging from 5 to 25 w/w %, wherein the edible and 3D printable ink composition is both printable and remains in a single phase at a temperature ranging from 20° C. to 30° C. A method of 3D printing the edible and 3D printable ink composition, and a system operable for printing the edible and 3D printable ink composition, are also disclosed herein.

Abstract: Composite anti-fouling coatings and associated systems and methods are generally described. In some aspects, a system comprises a substrate, a composite coating disposed on at least a portion of the substrate, and a fluid comprising one or more foulants, where the composite coating is configured to be in physical contact with the fluid during use. The composite coating may comprise a first region comprising a first material and a second region comprising a second material that is different from the first material. According to some embodiments, a full- spectral Hamaker constant associated with the composite coating and the fluid (i.e., based on average optical properties of the first and second materials of the composite coating) is relatively low, and the van der Waals (vdW) force between the composite coating and the one or more foulants is, therefore, correspondingly low. Under some conditions (e.g., high temperature and/or high pressure conditions), intermolecular interactions between the composite coating and the one or more foulants may be dominated by the vdW force, and a relatively low vdW force may reduce the likelihood of the one or more foulants adhering to and/or otherwise being deposited on the composite coating. By selecting materials for the composite coating that result in a relatively low full- spectral Hamaker constant, fouling of the composite coating may thus be reduced or even eliminated. In some cases, two or more materials with optical properties (e.g., refractive indices, frequency-dependent dielectric response values) that, when averaged, are substantially similar to those of the fluid across a spectrum of frequencies or wavelengths may advantageously be associated with a relatively low full- spectral Hamaker constant.

Abstract: There is provided a method of forming a thin film-based microfluidic electronic device. The method includes: providing a first elastomeric thin film layer on a substrate; depositing a first elastomer on the first elastomeric thin film by direct ink writing to form an elastomeric structure configured to define a microfluidic channel on the first elastomeric thin film layer; providing a second elastomeric thin film layer over the elastomeric structure to cover the microfluidic channel; providing a sacrificial layer on the second elastomeric thin film; depositing liquid metal into the microfluidic channel to form a conductor in the microfluidic channel; and electrically connecting the conductor to an electronic component. The thin film-based microfluidic electronic device is a tissue or skin adhesive sensor including a skin adhesive acoustic device.

Abstract: There is provided a carbon capture mixed matrix membrane comprising: a polymeric support layer; and a carbon dioxide capture layer in contact with the polymeric support layer, the carbon dioxide capture layer comprising solid porous material with at least one carbon dioxide adsorption site, wherein the polymeric support layer comprises spatially ordered uniform sized pores. The polymeric support layer may be patterned by micro-molding, nanoimprinting, mold-based lithography or other suitable lithographic process. The carbon dioxide capture layer may comprise amine-functionalised material, metal-organic frameworks such as zeolite imidazolate framework 8 (ZIF-8) or copper benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate (Cu-BTC) which may or may not be amine modified. There is also provided a membrane module comprising at least one carbon capture mixed matrix membrane and a method of forming the carbon capture mixed matrix membrane.
