Abstract:
A nanoparticle composition includes a metal nanoparticle, and a continuous dielectric coating on a surface of the metal nanoparticle, the nanoparticle composition being a dielectric material. A nanoparticle is in addition the reaction product of an organometallic compound. An electrorheological fluid comprises the nanoparticle composition and a dielectric fluid, and a method of making an electrorheological fluid is also disclosed.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for estimating a parameter of a fluid flowing in a tubular is disclosed. A source of a primary magnetic field is coupled to the tubular and is configured to induce the primary magnetic field in the fluid to align nuclei of the fluid in the tubular along the primary magnetic field. A transmitter transmits an excitation signal into the fluid. A receiver detects a signal from the aligned nuclei responsive to the excitation signal. A processor estimates the parameter of the fluid from the detected signal. The source of the primary magnetic field is removable from the tubular. A coil may induce a secondary magnetic field to either enhance the strength of the primary magnetic field in the tubular or substantially cancel the primary magnetic field in the tubular, for example, to reduce particle build-up in the tubular.
Abstract:
A completion system including a barrier valve operatively arranged in a tubing string to selectively impede fluid flow through a lower completion. At least one control line is included for supplying a control line pressure for controlling operation of the barrier valve. The at least one control line is operatively arranged with the tubing string for enabling tubing pressure in the tubing string to determine the control line pressure. A method of operating a barrier valve is also included.
Abstract:
A thermo-hydraulically actuated valve including a housing; a closure member capable of preventing and permitting fluid flow through the housing. An actuation fluid chamber disposed at the housing and sealed from an external environment. A motive force transmitter in force transmissive communication with the closure member. The transmitter being in fluid communication with the actuation fluid chamber; and a heating element in thermal communication with the actuation fluid chamber. The valve being devoid of a dynamic seal between an area of the valve to be contacted by a managed fluid within the valve and an environment outside of the valve.
Abstract:
A method of evaluating a stimulation operation includes: receiving parameter information for the stimulation operation, the stimulation operation including injecting an acid stimulation fluid into an earth formation along a selected length of a borehole from a tubular disposed in the borehole; and generating, by a processor, a thermal model based on one or more energy balance equations that account for at least a first heat source and a second heat source, the first heat source expected to produce heat during the stimulation by a chemical reaction between an acid in the stimulation fluid and the formation, and the second heat source including expected geothermal heat from the formation.
Abstract:
A nanoparticle composition comprises a ferromagnetic or superparamagnetic metal nanoparticle, and a functionalized carbonaceous coating on a surface of the ferromagnetic or superparamagnetic metal nanoparticle. A magnetorheological fluid comprises the nanoparticle composition.
Abstract:
An isolation and control system including a valve; a stroker operative to shift the valve between open and closed positions; and at least one control line operative to pressurize the stroker responsive to tubing pressure. Also included is a method for isolation and control in a borehole including running a plug having a pathway defined therein that leads to tubing pressure at one end and to the at least one control line at the other end to a system including a valve.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for cleaning a tubular member is disclosed. A storage device holds the tubular member in a finished form and a translation device passes the tubular member from the first storage device. A gas is supplied through the tubular member. A heating device heats the drawn tubular member and the gas passing through the tubular member to clean debris from inside the tubular member.
Abstract:
A tube wave reduction system for a borehole includes a tubular member. One or more openings in the tubular member. A dissipater in fluid communication with the one or more openings. Also included is a method for reducing an effect of a tube wave.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a flow-actuated actuator. The actuator includes, a tubular with a flow passageway having a first flow area, and at least one movable member in operable communication with the tubular. The at least one movable member is movable relative to the tubular between at least a first position and a second position, the at least one movable member configured to form a second flow area that is smaller than the first flow area when in the second position, the flow-actuated actuator is configured to move a separate member in response to fluid flow therethrough.
