摘要: Apparatus for completing a subterranean well and associated methods provide economical and efficient well completions. In one described embodiment, a well completion apparatus includes a packer which is settable by application of a compressive axial force thereto. The packer sealingly engages a wellbore of the well when set therein, but does not anchor to the wellbore. The apparatus further includes a screen and an attachment device. The attachment device permits the apparatus to be attached to another packer previously set and anchored within the wellbore.

摘要: A proppant slurry screen apparatus and associated method of using it prevent sticking of a service tool during proppant slurry delivery to a subterranean wellbore after failure of a crossover portion of the apparatus. In a preferred embodiment, a proppant slurry screen apparatus has a tubular crossover member with an internal flow passage, circulation port, and side wall outlet openings, first and second coaxial tubular structures, the first tubular structure extending above a packer and having a radial port which provides fluid communication between the wellbore above the packer and an annular flow passage between the first and second tubular structures, and a tubular screen positioned between the first and second tubular structures adjacent the port and operative to screen proppant from the proppant slurry.

摘要: The method and apparatus for treating multiple production zones includes a completion string having a plurality of sets of tools including a closing sleeve, indicator collar, and production screens with an isolation packer disposed between each adjacent set. An inner service tool is disposed within the outer completion string and includes an upper portion with a crossover tool and a lower portion with a closing sleeve shifter and a weight-down collet with the upper and lower portions being connected. The apparatus is assembled by assembling an initial length of the outer completion string which does not includes any of the closing sleeves or indicator collars. After the initial length is assembled, the lower portion of the service tool with the closing sleeve shifter and weight-down collet are assembled and inserted into the initial length of completion string. The remainder of the completion string is then assembled with all closing sleeves in the closed position. The upper portion of the service tool is then assembled and stabbed and connected into the lower portion. As multiple production zones are treated, the inner service tool is raised and then lowered opening a closing sleeve and setting weight on the indicator collar. A predetermined amount of weight is then maintained during the operation to ensure that the crossover tool is positioned adjacent the opened closing sleeve. The production zone then may be treated in the weight-down position.

The receptacle has a lower filtration screen attached thereto for filtering larger particles, such as gravel and proppant, from fluid flow within the well. Thus, the retrievable screen may be retrieved and replaced, leaving the receptacle operatively positioned in the well.

摘要: A hydraulic setting apparatus has an isolation sleeve which covers setting ports and prevents entry of hydraulic setting fluid into a pressure settable tool such as an inflatable packer or a hydraulic packer. The mandrel of the setting tool is mechanically coupled to the mandrel of the pressure settable completion tool by a guide tube which provides an enlarged counterbore chamber. The guide tube is intersected by radial setting ports which permit entry of the pressurized fluid for pressurizing a hydraulic pressure chamber in the completion tool. A shiftable isolation sleeve opens and closes the setting ports. A radially outwardly biased split C-ring is engaged against the bore of the isolation sleeve. Longitudinal travel of the split C-ring is limited by a shear collar which is releasably pinned to the isolation sleeve.

摘要: A single bore packer is modified by a dual flow seal unit for gas lift completion. This permits the operator to inject lift gas into the upper casing annulus at the well head, bypass the hanger packer and conduct the lift gas into the suspended production tubing below the fluid level. The dual flow seal assembly is sealed internally against the packer mandrel, with the lift gas being conducted through a bypass flow passage between the seal mandrel and the packer mandrel, and being discharged into the lower casing annulus through a discharge port formed through the packer mandrel below the packer seal element package. The hang weight load of the production tubing is decoupled with respect to the packer seal elements by a set of internal ratchet slips which transfers the hang weight load from the packer mandrel onto the anchor slips and well casing at a location below the seal element package.

The seal elements (center elements and/or end elements) are provided with voids therein for controlling the stresses created in the elements during setting of the packers while minimizing the strains resulting from such stresses. The voids are preferably cavities and are readily formed in the elements as they are molded.
